Why don’t House Republicans want a elect a speaker of the house?

Would they rather show their inability to organize and elect than show any sign of competency?

Democrats make a giant fuss about "protecting democracy" but apparently they don't know it when they see it.

@SumKindaMunster Hurrah for Democracy 👍

@SumKindaMunster Chaos isnt democracy.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@justanothername Actually, Chaos can be democracy, when not enough people can decide on which course to take. What is NOT Democracy is a group forcing its will on others ikn spite of the fact thatthey dont have the majority of the votes. Now would you like to discuss majorities and how fragile they are?? Maybe you can think of a recent occasion when one was not respected??😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Nothing that is this dysfunctional can be successfull.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@justanothername Sure, but sometimes democracy is chaotic and messy.

@justanothername I thank you for your logical and well constructed critique of my comments. I look forward to your next casual keystrokes with the keenest anticipation..😷

@SumKindaMunster Not to this extent.

@justanothername I'm sure they're hard at work right now trying desperately not to earn more of your disapproval.

@justanothername OK.. You rethought and posted something I can address. Thank you. Democracy doesnt have to succeed. The Jury is still out on that one, since it holds the premise that 2oo million idiots are smarter than one genius. It just happens to be better than any other system thought up so far. And thats without the corrupting influence of power and money that permiates just about every other form of government tried so far. If you are going to have a system where everyone is equal thats great. But as George Orwell observed in Animal Farm, you have to avoid some people being more equal than others. That doesnt guarantee success. But failing to offer that guarantees failure..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Democracy is preferred over an authoritarian rule. Democracy works well when everyone works as a team.

I am very familiar with the book Animal Farm. It was how George Orwell envisioned a communist future.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@justanothername We absolutely agree on both those points.. As a personal observation I would first seek ways to improve the quality of the people who seek elected office. Because the current system discourages the ones we all need.😷
@SumKindaMunster Why are the Democrats responsible for helping the Republicans clean up their own mess? If the Democrats couldn’t decide between AOC and Hakeem Jeffries for speaker, do you think any Republicans would vote for one of them?

The solution is easy - 5 Republicans need to vote “present” to allow Jeffries to get more votes.

@LeopoldBloom Ugh I didn't say they were strawman. See my comments on this same subject in the same post.
@SumKindaMunster Nobody is saying that the chaos the Republicans displayed in picking a speaker wasn't democracy in action. I don't recall too many Democrats complaining about it.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@LeopoldBloom No? Must just be me then. Being a loyal Democrat yourself, I wouldn't expect you to note hypocrisy or criticism towards their actions.
@SumKindaMunster Can you quote any prominent Democrats who complained about the disarray among the Republicans? Unless you're talking about people complaining that without a Speaker, Congress can't address any of the pressing issues the country is facing. The fact remains that the Republicans brought the chaos on themselves.
