Question for Democrats

Let's say you have won every election and totally control all aspects of government. Then what? What will the country be like?
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
I'll let Presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman answer that,

Here's a hint: The goal is Domestic Improvements.
Dshhh · M
@badminton yep this..
boudinMan · 61-69, M
i can tell you what it would be like... men would be effeminate, children would be given puberty blockers at age 5, anyone would be allowed into the country, there would be no restrictions on abortion (even post birth), everyone would pay 60-80% of their income in taxes, you wouldn't be able to protect yourself with a gun, you would never hear of the founding fathers, the combustion engine would be outlawed and everyone except the ultra rich elitists (government bureaucrats) would live in the literal dark and work to support the oppressive machine.
boudinMan · 61-69, M
@Roundandroundwego so if someone is beating the shit out of you or your wife or child and you have a gun nearby, it’s not gonna help you huh?

as for not caring about your sex life, isn’t that the way it should be?
@boudinMan true
Dshhh · M
@boudinMan
ultra rich elitists (government bureaucrats)
so all our billionaires are government employees?
Carissimi · F
If one person controlled all branches of government, it would be a dictatorship. If I controlled all government branches, I’d make The Constitution the law of the land, as it’s supposed to be. Before ceding control I’d add some amendments, one being all children must be taught American history (not the revised version), and must be taught about the Constitution. I’d also make sure critical thinking skills are taught, so children can think with logic and reason.

Oops! I’m a conservative.
Carissimi · F
I answered a hypothetical question by saying that if I were the sole leader of all three branches, my intent is to step down, and reinstate the Constitution. If you don’t understand this, well that’s your business. @Dshhh
Dshhh · M
@Carissimi ah the Step Down part! really good! the Cincinatus decision ! " i dont want to be king!"
this is also what George Washington did, for which is was called. "The American Cincinatus"
YOu are to commended for such a wise choice
Carissimi · F
@Dshhh
Before ceding control I’d add some amendments,
I said I would step down in the original. I just used different words.
For a glimpse, let's consult the historical record: "From 1952 through June 2020, annualized real stock market returns under Democrats have been 10.6% compared with 4.8% for Republicans." https://www.forbes.com/sites/sergeiklebnikov/2020/07/23/historical-stock-market-returns-under-every-us-president/#51469926faaf

That's right. Democrats are better for the economy.
MUCH better. Deal with it.
@boudinMan In 2021 it was demonstrably true.

In 2021, the 75% of Americans fully vaccinated produced under 20% of the Covid deaths, while the 25% unvaccinated Americans produced over 80% of the Covid deaths.

In 2021, the 75% of Americans fully vaccinated produced under 31% of Covid cases; while the 25% unvaccinated Americans produced nearly 70% of Covid cases.

This means the US unvaccinated had a 5X higher chance of contracting Covid compared to the vaccinated per capita, and that overall the unvaccinated had about a 15X higher probability of Covid death per capita.

Note: since 'Long Covid' occurs in 15% to 25% of Covid cases, that means there is also a 5X higher prevalence of Long Covid per capita among the unvaccinated.

@ElwoodBlues awesome thanks for those states from forbes
Dshhh · M
@ElwoodBlues has totally destroyed you in this debate @boudinMan its like you dont even have the ability for rational thought and rely entirely on fallacies. try counter -factual argument, oh wait, you don't seem to know how

here is a start, from a source you can trust
https://www.conservapedia.com/Logical_fallacy
Remember the 1960s? Good roads, good schools, big projects...

More like that.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@MistyCee Who remembers Truman? Anyone who reads history? (Yeah, I was alive when he was President, but too young to remember him. The first I remember is Eisenhower.)
@SomeMichGuy in 1967 we went to schools in New Portables. Temporary class rooms. They're still in use. Ours wasn't a wanted generation.
@Roundandroundwego Sorry you did. Which state was that. It wasn't what happened for me.
Graylight · 51-55, F
One where, ideally, the playing field is well and truly levelled. One in which the least are treated the same as the wealthiest because a society is made up of its people, and we lose great minds and potential daily to things that could be prevented or halted if for a modicum of empathy. One where the world knows and understands our intentions and our will to back them up, but with an even, thoughtful hand with the future in mind. Not just our future, but the future of the ten generations to come. One in which decent behavior is encouraged and rewarded and abhorrent behavior is either remedied where possible or eradicated effectively. One in which we understand and act as though we're but one tenant on this planet, not a global ruler. One which supports and promotes the productivity of American industry through education, re-education and progressive research and development. America would be one which fosters the regard and respect of others and from ourselves.
Ynotisay · M
Here's a long sentence.

The wealthiest would pay their fair share with tax loopholes they access eliminated and the corresponding revenue would be directed to where it's needed the most, rights such as abortion and gay marriage would be codified, advancing technologies and onshore manufacturing would be pursued, the unfair and undemocratic electoral college would be eliminated, the Supreme Court would be expanded to eliminate/diminish the politicization of it, Citizen's United would (hopefully) be eliminated, some form of "free" healthcare and secondary education would be implemented, gun laws would be strengthened, climate change would be better addressed and things like unions, minimum wage increases, consumer protections and regulations against industries that harm citizens would be promoted.

With that, crime would be reduced, life spans would be increased, even more jobs would be created and "regular" people would have a chance for better lives.

That's just a few off the top of my head.

Another way of looking at is that Democrats are 'for' things. The things that makes people's lives safer and better. Republicans are 'against' things. I'm hard pressed to think of anything they're 'for' that doesn't harm others in the process.

So I see it as the difference between strength and weakness, courage and fear and moving forward instead of backwards. You know...the REAL American ideals.
this man would have made a great president

Okay for a little while before conservative elements try to keep the government from progressing further and will look to the good old days. The mythical golden age. So the left will slowly move to the right and pick up the rejects of the country driving it even further to the right into conspiracy land. Then new progressive parties will arise to fight the retrogressive elements and push humanity toward more progress again.
Sadly most of human history has been ruled by autocratic governments which has slowed progress since the first cities formed and the first governments formed to manage them. Conservatism has literally put humanity behind by around 8,000 years. If all governments had followed logic and science instead of conservatism and religion we would have had antibiotics in 1000 BCE.
This has always happened throughout history. And it will continue to happen. America is just another empire that will eventually change or fall.
Ontheroad · M
Just as a beginning I'd want to do away with the Electoral College, do away with voter districting in the states, put term limits of two, 4 year terms for members of both houses, put 10 year limits on judges in the SCOTUS, do away with the filibuster.

After that, get busy amending our Constitution so that it provides equality for all.
Slade · 56-60, M
@Ontheroad Repeat after me "The...Electoral...College...Is...Here....Forever"

LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Ontheroad · M
@Slade It's fine, you and your pals are are of luck regardless.

LMAOLMAOLMAOLMAOLMAOLMAO
Slade · 56-60, M
@Ontheroad of luck YES since it's here FOREVER!
Elessar · 26-30, M
Realistically, the party would split, as it's already a clusterf*ck of (sometimes incompatibile) ideologies. From the schism you'll get back to a 2-party situation, the biggest two subsets. Ex-republicans that haven't retired from politics would join the more conservative of these two.

You'll get two shiny two parties but unless the voting system is reformed, it'll be essentially a façade change. "Progressives" vs "Conservatives" (or whatever names they'll pick), green vs pink, instead of "Democrats" vs "Republicans", blue vs red.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
They have to wait to see what the television tells them.
Northwest · M
One where we have an actual healthcare plan that does not drive families into bankruptcy, affordable education to level the playing field, and a nation that is a fair player on the worldwide scene.
@Northwest most of europe . spain france ect. i bit higher on taxs however no cost when going to the doc or higher ed.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
With the current bunch of democratic politicians? Probably nothing would change. Ideally, though, things would change in such a way that everybody would finally have equal opportunities. Gerrymandering would be a thing of the past, as would shutting down polling places in poor neighborhoods to keep the very poorest people from voting. Sensible gun laws would be passed in all 50 states, so that people couldn't sneak them from one state to another.

I could go on all day, but I don't want people tuning me out out of boredom.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
George Orwell already wrote a book about such a hypothetical scenario...
@wildbill83 vote lawlessness, make 1984 reality, is what liberals are burning down cities to have, fucking idiot's
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
beckyromero · 36-40, F
hunkalove · 61-69, M
It will still be a piece of shit. But a better piece of shit.
@hunkalove Always the optimist, Hunk 👍🏽
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Darn tootin', dagnabit!
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Better, much better. We'll still have problems and a long way to go, but at least we'll have hope of progress.
I can't speak for all Democrats, but my guess is no one else can either.

My guess is, so called moderate Democrats would fill in to counterbalance the more aggressive leftist revolutionary types.

I get the both sides crap, but Democrats don't do authoritarianism well. Obama was probably as close as they've come since FDR, and that didn't go well.

I imagine half of the country would be as dissatisfied as if the republicans had full control, and implemented only their will.
You're looking at it, now, right?
They're generations in, they built this.
Slade · 56-60, M
We already had that. It was called the Confederate States of America
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Alot more simple and common sense. Everyone would have a flat tax except for the most impoverished.
Roughly 22%
Businesses would not get any breaks or tax cuts unless they were explicitly serving the country's needs.
Presidency would last 6 years instead of 4.
Personal freedom would reign Supreme unless of course common sense laws are broken.
Police and prison system would get cleaned up .
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire It doesn't matter. I don't believe in punishing people for poverty or success. The more they make, the more the government gets as a raw value 22%.
No one should have to pay more because society decides that they have too much!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@REMsleep Yeah, but they became billionaires by not paying their fair share in the first place.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire Well if I were in charge I would fix that! No retribution just make the change and be totally fair.
Which ones are you asking ? (Hint: they’re not synonymous)
Or, perhaps you next plan to ask:

Question for Fascists and Republicans
Riverman2 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard There you go, efited just for you.
East Berlin, just saying its comparable "if"
MougyWolf · 36-40, M
woke garbage, but with no pushback
Simply put: Sad state of affairs…
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Well just do as they say then
SW-User
Control all aspects at just the federal level, or in every state as well?

Then, which Democrats? Republican-Lite centrists? Progressives?

Moreoever, regardless of who is in power, how do you get into the minds of individual voters susceptible to taking the post-Nixon fear-based bait that has manufactured crises and ongoing culture war divisions for half a century now, so that anything good done under the Democrat control of government does not simply get undone later for completely baseless and irrational reasons?

@NoGamesTolerated
Every state would be like the cities of San Francisco and Detroit
Just to name a few!

Bravo! Best comment here.
@Azlotto I think all we have to do is look 👀 at Democrat ran cities now. What we see is what we will get even more of because so many in government are driven by evil and don’t even realize it.
@Azlotto and thank for your kind words.
