Why can't America get more Immigrants from Norway?

*Because they have an excellent universal health care scheme.
* Because they have a longer life expectancy than Americans.
* Because the recently ranked No 1 as the happiest nation on the planet (America comes in at 31)
* Because their nation has a trade SURPLUS of over a trillion dollars
* Because Donald Trump is not the President there.
Because the USA president has a shithole for brains.
@whowasthatmaskedman You sound like those Bible thumpers who skip the passages that are completely insane but expect you to believe in the whole book. Typical double standard.

And as for MAGA ( Morons Are Governing America).
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Okay.. I will give you that one.. But I agree with Wolfe. Trumps people are too stupid and chaotic to deliberately plan to collude with Russia.. But I reckon the money laundering trail will hang out some family members. @Underconstruction
@whowasthatmaskedman I wouldn't understimate them so easily. They may be chaotic but they are evil.

Fortunately another definition for MAGA is Mueller Ain't Going Away.

Worth pointing out that Norway only has a population of 5.2 million.
That may have something to do with it.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Kinda helps when oil and gas are two of your larger export markets.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Sure.. particularly when you have to import food and raw materials
Northwest · M
@whowasthatmaskedman
Possibly.. The fact remains that Norway is a high spend nation on welfare, like other Scandinavian nations.. With a high trade surplus.@Picklebobble2
Norway made a decision, decades ago, to spread the oil wealth, so they established a national fund. It's not a static fund, as in it makes strategic investments, and they do have people who make sure that the investments are ethical.

I am not sure why any Norwegian in their right state of mind, would want to come to the US. As an aside, I live in Seattle, a city with primarily Norwegian heritage (followed by Swedish). I read the comments about the weather in Norway. Try living in Seattle. Can't get people to stop coming here.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
Because the America of Trump is fast becoming a racist shithole.
@Zonuss ". Notice how Puck totally evaded that summary I just wrote above here. He won't and can't acknowledge the truth because he isn't man enough to do it."

In 1895 it snowed at sea level in Tampico Mexico.
It snows in Tampico.

These two sentences are examples of how you are thinking. Both statements are true, but it would be ridiculous to pack your ski's for a trip to Tampico.

Use your head.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@puck61 You're a liar because in my region here in the Southeastern US many blacks were being employed at a rapid pace sense 2010. Trump is piggybacking from Obamas success because we all know he is a phony con man who believes his own lies. The good news is that the world is now starting to see right through him.
@Zonuss 😄

It's amazing how we can shift happiness according to what we value. When we realize we have enough and our neighbors do, too, everyone leaves in harmony. When we play "King of the Hill," we'll never feel like we have enough.
Northwest · M
@Graylight It's the difference between the Trump zero-sum doctrine and the more universal: let's figure out how to make a bigger pie.
SW-User
It's because smaller country, less population. Can do things with smaller countries where you can't from bigger ones. That's like small towns vs large cities. Smaller towns are more better ran and peaceful.
Northwest · M
@SW-User Functional government, that works for the people, not special interests, not size of country, is the key part. We will see some tax revenue, from offshore oil drilling, but the bulk will go to corporations.

In Norway, it's the reverse. It's the same for all the Scandinavian countries.
SW-User
@Northwest its easy to take care of a small country than a large one.. its easier to pay for health coverage for a small country than a large one. its easier for smaller countries to spread wealth than larger ones.
Northwest · M
@SW-User If you do the math, you will find that the only difference, is that special interests are not given priority, and there's a willingness to share, as in the wealth gap is far, far narrower.
Northwest · M
Trump's first campaign manager, was on last night with Chris Cuomo. He said: 'why would we want an immigrant who makes $4K per year (referring to Haitians), if we can have an immigrant who makes $97K per year (referring to Norwegians'.

It took Chris Cuomo a minute to recover from the extreme assault on common logic, before he could respond.

This is the guy who ran Trump's campaign. Not sure how one can properly respond to this.
Northwest · M
@SW-User It still does not compute, and it's even more insulting if that were the case. That would mean he's suggesting that a Haitian is not capable of achieving a high level of education.

This kind of thinking does not surprise me though. I remember a Trump interview with Diane Sawyer. He was comparing himself to Obama, and doubting that Obama would be able to get a degree from Columbia and Harvard, for no other reason than being black and having a Kenyan father.
SW-User
not at all. just kind of weird to pick countries and say this country is better than that country. but in reality not all countries are equal in terms of education aswell as everything else. but what he said was pretty much a burn to haitians.
Northwest · M
@SW-User On a per capita basis, not all countries are equal. Let's take Palestinians, for instance, they live in what Trump may qualify as a shithole, but they are far better educated (k-12 level) than us.

His statement was not about the country level, it was about individuals, and he did not bring up education. Someone with a PhD from Haiti, in their field, should be able to contribute at the same level as someone from Norway, with the same type of PhD. The only distinguishing factor is skin color, just as I said.

I've always liked Norway. They can make democratic socialism work because of North Sea Oil money, and the power structure is honest with the people. Wonderful country.
Donald Trump might be the best president since Reagan, if not better. He has already done wonders, and it's only the first year. Reagan was a better communicator though.
Angeleyez · 51-55, F

Yes.. You are right.. I am wrong.. Its one of those things I read somewhere, and believed, but didn't check.. I retract without reservation..@windinhishair
Northwest · M
@whowasthatmaskedman these stats are very confusing. I focused on ‘homicide using a firearm’ only, and that puts the US about 17X Switzerland in the most recent set of stats. Deaths by a firearm is a whole other category.

Bottom line, is that we have way too many weapons AND a permissive attitude. The Swiss have access to fully automatic rifles, but they don’t usually use them to kill.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman It is one of those facts that when you check it out, it is all the more surprising. Many people get it wrong. Part of the problem is that depending on exactly what you ask, it may include suicide by firearm. That's awful in its own right, but most people are thinking about gun homicides and crimes committed with firearms, not those who commit suicide.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
But Norway has F52's being delivered to them lol
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Call of Duty does not exist lol
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I am starting to wonder about the F35s as well. I think they are CGI..@MikefromEP
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman CGI won't have a chance against Finland's Angry Birds...

Wish I could immigrate back

It's gets cold there and the wildlife eats you!

Oh? I must have missed the news about roaming gangs of armed wolves and polar bears wandering the major towns mugging people carjacking commuters and robbing convenience stores. @SW-User
SW-User
@whowasthatmaskedman oh dear! No you missed possibly upto around 100,000yrs of humans roaming that geographical location!
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@whowasthatmaskedman I got to admit though it would be pretty amusing if polar bears were wandering around carjacking people. I'd just quit at that point 🤔
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Is this another "Why would Norwegians want to live here" post? It seems like that's what it is.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Not really.. Just why would they want to leave to go anywhere else@Jackaloftheazuresand
jackson55 · M
And they wouldn't provide the votes the democrats want.
Florian04 · 18-21, M
The last reason is the most important!
I guess we’re the shithole in this scenario.
Londonguy23 · 51-55, M
All excellent points. Someone said that Trump's presence makes the U.S. a "sh*thole" to anyone considering immigrating here. It would only make sense to someone in a dire situation at home.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Good points there. ☺
