M&M’s ‘spokescandies’.... what does anyone have to say about it all?

Is this really such a big deal that people get upset about it?

The only thing I like about this insanity is the notion that tons of people were outraged at how a candy became slightly less sexy. It's absurd.

@CountScrofula Exactly! I don't even know why this should be an issue! It's candy! lol

I don't even know what this is all about
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Poppies M&M made their green candy mascot less "sexy" by slightly changing her design and claimed it was a sign of keeping up with a progressive world. Conservative media (particularly Tucker Carlson) famously overreacted claiming that the woke brigades are at it again and it was a brief controversy.

M&M now just announced they're retiring their spokescandies in apparent response to the controversy, which is probably just a stunt for a new ad campaign.

Or in other words, this is actually the stupidest time to be alive in human history.

@CountScrofula All I got from this is that Tucker Carlson used to futiously masturbate to the green m n m and is super depressed she's not "sexy" anymore.

Basically I could give a sh!t about M&M's ad campaigns, except that they are absolutely desperate for attention.

I'm not 100% sure what the problem is/was, but from the little I've heard it's just another example of the PC/Woke/Cancel Culture at its most ridiculous. BUT, like I said, I'm not even sure exactly what the problem was, so I'm just guessing.
FragileHeart · 22-25, M
@ChipmunkErnie It's about a company making a marketing decision. They conduct research and if they find out certain depictions are seen as not so popular they change it. What is generally seen as "cancel culture" are just voiced opinions that are easily spread through social media etc... and indicate a trend.
I find the argument funny that "woke" people have so much power to "cancel" things and people while in fact it's often just that more popular values within a society are favoured and companies are all about making money therefore follow these current trends and mindsets within a society.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@FragileHeart It's more that corporations run from controversy and those who scream the loudest, from what I can see. As I see people and things "cancelled,I find it funny that people ignore the fact.
FragileHeart · 22-25, M
@ChipmunkErnie That's a good point but in order for things to turn into a controversy there must be at least a certain amount of doubt or criticism within broader society and in many cases a majority doesn't care while a group of people sees something as offensive and the group in favor of it is small as well.
I just don't think there is a black and white to it.
FragileHeart · 22-25, M
If this is actually something people get upset over they should really reflect on their priorities and values.
Politicians or political commentators talking about this are just trying to deflect from real issues.
Ontheroad · M
I've heard some nonsense about it, but don't really understand or care. Just leave my Peanut M&M's alone and nobody will get hurt.

A culture war over talking candies...a waste of time and energy!...but free advertising...
the reaping of the sowing.

this is the crazy we live in now..
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F

AMelancholyHaunting · 41-45, M
