That’s not how DEI works, dummy.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@JPWhoo

DEI works great! Just look at the FAA
DogMan · 61-69, M
@JPWhoo DEI is the opposite of Merit based. Diversity is the opposite of unity.

Equity is the opposite of equality, and Inclusion, is not inclusive for all.

graphite · 61-69, M
I would like football tuned for everyone. How about: I get to be QB, and no defensive player is permitted rush or tackle me, and I have receivers allowed to stay completely open, 5 yards from the line of scrimmage because that's as far as I can throw? This will expand pro football opportunities. It's plain unfair that only the best of the best get to play pro football.
PatKirby · M
@graphite

And don't forget the QB should be required to wear a flag so no tackling allowed. This would create jobs for flag football manufacturers! A win-win situation!
DogMan · 61-69, M
@graphite I have a hard time throwing with my bad shoulder, I should be allowed 5 running backs
so I can just hand-off. Maybe I put a large Transgender woman in from of my center, when I do
a QB sneak.
graphite · 61-69, M
@DogMan Bring in fairness and equity! Zero-skill non-football players must be allowed to play professional football!
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
Muggsy Bogues was only 5'3. Earl Boykins was 5'5. Spud Webb was 5'6. Calvin Murphy made the Hall of Fame at 5'9

DEI isn't really needed in a league that already allows players from all different backgrounds test their mettle.

Unfortunately, a lot of places in the US don't really have open tryouts or scouting tapes that lets people show off their competency. Haven't you ever heard the expression "it's not what you know, it's who you know"? A lot of people from minority groups don't have the same level of connections that privileged classes do, and therefore aren't given as many opportunities to succeed

I mean, I don't really see anything wrong with giving people a shot if they got the right qualifications
DogMan · 61-69, M
@TinyViolins Your last two words were the most important, "Right Qualifications"
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@DogMan I put that in there because so many people incorrectly assume that people are getting hired or promoted based solely on their minority status. A properly implemented DEI policy ensures they also have the right competencies
PatKirby · M
I hear you, when life's tough the tough get going. Here's an example of taking a pro-active attitude to preserving that all important safe space in a time of need...

How dare people invade her safe space, that'll teach them! 😂
Thrust · 56-60, M
@PatKirby

I actually saw her. Or a close relative, on the subway 🤡
DogMan · 61-69, M
@PatKirby The one guy is thinking, "I could still do her, even with the cage."
PatKirby · M
@DogMan

I wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole. She comes off like a real square!
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
I’d argue that the quality of baseball got better when Black players were allowed to play in the major leagues. And then again when teams made a focused effort to recruit talent from Latin America. And then again when teams began seeking out Japanese players.

So which part of diversity, equity and inclusion feels like a problem to you? Because that’s what those programs do—they find ways to identify talent from underrepresented groups. The result is better performance not worse.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Yep, you’ve got it tough there. Maybe some day, we could have just one straight, male, white Christian President in the US.

@Harmonium1923 wow what a sick burn! One person out of 330 million. And they are actually chosen by the people, not some arbitrary set aside

100% FAIL
Mbingh01 · 61-69, F
We are both in the same age group…… we are to old to play professional sports😆 When you find that safe space, let me know where it is, I need a safe space too 😊
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Mbingh01 Yes, we are about the same age, but I am still athletic. I work out 6 days a week,
and ride dirt bikes on the weekend. What is your sport of choice?
I dunno Dood…

Ray-Gun was not the best of the best..

MethDozer · M
Because sports is one of the few businesses that doesn't discriminate or have stack hiring practices.
At least anymore. Baseball for example has its DEI moment back when Jakie Robinson switched to MLB.

Now when you have say police and fire departments serving areas that are only 20% white while the forces are 90% whites who live in the suburbs 20+ minutes away. It kinda shows a problem with hiring practices
eMortal · M
DEI programs are never mandatory. Companies are encouraged to apply them but they don't.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@eMortal 100% 💩

When there are limited jobs and quotas have to be met then those DEI numbers are mandatory.

If you have to lie to protect your beloved quotas that should tell you they are no good
eMortal · M
I wrote a long comment but I deleted it because it looks like you're trolling.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
As recently as the 90’s some NBA teams made certain to have at least 1 white guy in the court at all times.

Entwistle · 56-60, M
There should be a 'short persons league in the NBA.
Thrust · 56-60, M
I demand short Asian women for NBA centers
PatKirby · M
@Thrust

Well if they play at point guard position maaaaybe they can push the ball up the court a bit without getting into too much trouble with those seven foot+ giants. If they don't fall first.
Please clarify. Which was DEI – when they banned black players, or when they allowed them?
swirlie · F
Are you gay or transgender?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@swirlie If I were a woman, I would be gay. But I would be happy with the gender I was
born with. How about you? You seem like you go all ways.
