Why a ceasefire?

In 1945 much of Europe lay in ruins. Civilians were killed, crippled, left homeless, starving literally by millions. Nobody said, let's have a humanitarian ceasefire and give the Germans time to re-arm and re-group.

The war did not end until the Nazi government had been driven from power. Because that was necessary to prevent a new round of atrocities and warfare. And it was indeed the right thing to do.

How does it make sense to provide the genocidal terrorist group Hamas with the chance to re-arm and commit more diabolical crimes like the one they did in October.

Hamas is no better than the Nazis were and should have been dealt with in the same way.
What Hamas did on Oct 7 was absolutely wrong and Israel has the right to fight back against Hamas soldiers. But most of the deaths in Palestine have been walled-in women and children.

Israel has spent decades ghettoizing Palestinians, ALL Palestinians, behind tall walls, limiting their travel, limiting their employment, taking away their freedoms, creating an apartheid state. Honestly, Israel's actions are more closely aligned with the Third Reich than any modern civilized nation.

The monumental irony of this post is crushing.

@Richard65 Oh yeah? Well I TRIPLE Dog Irony you.... No backsies!

@GerOttman you win 🏆
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@Richard65 You put up a good fight! Respect..
We can't wait for the war to end because Hamas doesn't have enough power to defeat its occupier, especially not when most of the West is helping that nation commit genocide.
justbob · 61-69, M
@NerdyPotato Absolutely untrue. Also a bit naive about the abilities of military forces.
@justbob which part is untrue?
justbob · 61-69, M
@NerdyPotato Every word.
onewithshoes · 22-25, F
For reasons no one can explain, there are no formal declarations of war any more, and therefore no formal surrenders any more, and no formal peace treaties. In a sense then, wars never really begin, and never really end. The Middle East is thus never really at war and never really at peace, but always somewhere in between.

@justbob Zelenskyy isn’t elected, the election was cancelled, he’s been in power for nearly a year now, and he shouldn’t be
justbob · 61-69, M
@ididntknow New elections are over due and were put off because of the crisis but Zelensky was indeed elected.
ididntknow · 51-55, M
@justbob Ukraine on fire, by Oliver stone, gives a good insight to where Ukraine is at, and how it got there, it’s on Amazon prime, very informative
Ynotisay · M
But how would a cease fire allow them to "restock" their weapons?
And I think to compare Hamas to Nazism is a bit of a stretch, don't you? Entirely different situations.
justbob · 61-69, M
@Ynotisay They manufacture some of their weapons themselves. They have gotten pretty sophisticated. And while they are not being pressured by Israeli attacks they will be able to devote energy to finding arms sellers.

Also, the Nazis set out to exterminate the Jews in Europe. Hamas is out to exterminate the Jews in Israel. The only difference is the location.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Yeah, sure.

You only care about Jewish people as long as it serves Evangelical nonsense about Israel predicting Christ's return, the end of the world and the forced conversion of Jewish people to Christianity.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@justbob I know your kind. You spike in the other post about "God given land". Your God can't logically exist. You're dooming children to death for your Bronze Age book of fairytales.

Unlike you, I can still tell right from wrong. Killing brown kids is pretty much wrong.

Our PRESENT government is in bed with the globalists, who are in bed with the axis of evil nations which inhabit the UN. It is the UN and the globalists that demand HAMAS be unfettered.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
They can re arm but much of their arms flowed to them via Hezbollah which has been fucked up. It'll take a good long while, since Iran too isn't in the best shape to provide the kind of support they had been given before.

You must also look through the lens of the decades of ground work Hamas had to fall back on, much of which has been erased.

This is not an easy recovery for Hamas, and they'll not have the scale to commit an October 7th atrocity for a long time, if ever again.
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
Think Israel wants all their hostages back only reason for them to stop fighting
@2ndtimeguy they didn't hesitate killing the ones that escaped, so the hostages aren't as important as the propaganda makes it appear. In fact, getting the hostages released removes the excuse to carpet bomb the area, so that's not in Israel's interest at all.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Biden left them a huge stash of arms in Afghanistan.
@Heartlander not just.. he directly funds them as well through UN charity groups
Because peace is impossible. America and Israel hate peace and their population is uniquely aggressive and loves genocide as a tool for nation building. But murkans ain't going there! No woke! So, it's permanent.

Not a single a single accurate analogy in your post.

It’s more like a hostage for prisoner swap and a pause. I don’t see any long term plan.
