revenant · F

Rhode57 · 56-60, M
@revenant Me too a double room with an en suite in a guest house so only heating one room
revenant · F
@Rhode57 gas is a no no now.....cheapest way to heat and cook. Everything has to be electric...

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Yep ! Oil and gas and electricity pricing has been through the roof here in the UK.
Add to that the ridiculous increases in food pricing and non-availabilty of certain things on your weekend shop
@Picklebobble2 I give 100 to 1 Vegas odds that Brussells forced the UK Parliament to do so.
SW-User
@Picklebobble2 No, it was the ultra generous furlough scheme during the lockdowns, that now has to be paid for.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@SW-User The furlough scheme will be paid for by the next generation.
Gen-x-ers are having to pay for the p*$$*ng away of our pension pots over the last TWO periods of recession since the 90's
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@Arrow17 in june my electric bill was over $300.00 and that was in a cool month. Now that we here in Arizona have broken arizona all time records of july, i expect the bill to be closer to $600.00. Average about 115 degrees during the day( 46 c) and in the evening a average of about 94 degrees low at night or(34 c). We have had 28 straight days over 110 degrees (43c) this month and that includes 3 days of 119 degrees(48.5c). This record is still running. Today it cooled to 115 degrees. It has been so hot that even the cacti are dying. Average temperature of day and night together every day is over 102 degrees every day of the month.
Arrow17 · 46-50, F
@ronisme1 in Us and Uk the inflation can come down. In Asia inflation has never down. The governments doesn't know to control inflation.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@Arrow17 sad
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@ronisme1 im happy to report my july bill was only $478.00
Fairydust · F
Everything seems to have doubled in price.

All by design, the rich get richer and we pay more. 🙄🪬
@Fairydust seems about right
@Fairydust Corporate profits rose exponentially during the pandemic shutdowns. Hell, Elon Musk went from 20th richest to richest by way more than double of #2 during that time.

revenant · F
yep. I am shocked at electricity bills.
revenant · F
@OogieBoogie we are going back to living in caves..

and they dare to call themselves First Developped Nations ? nothing to do with Indians here..

Everyday I am shocked...
@revenant I'm shocked too.
Something is gonna break ....it can't keep on like this .

I remember decades ago when I first saw the BladeRunner movie, I had this chill down my spine that THAT was what the future would probably be ....and now I'm even more convinced that's where we are heading .😒
@revenant This is the opposite of true Socialism, it's downright theft from those who rule.
helsbels · 26-30, F
Somehow every time I go to the shops it is £30-£40 for 2-3 bags of shopping yet whenever I go to have lunch or dinner there's next to nothing there 🤷‍♀️ So I have to go again and it's another £30-£40

Definitely noticing the money not going as far. Admittedly I am bad at planning/meal prep.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@helsbels it helps to plan a weekly menu, that way you know exactly what to buy that week.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Everything is more expensive! Our wages haven't increased though!
@JimboSaturn I have noticed 😐
@JimboSaturn yup. We fought for a 3% payrise , while inflation here went up 8.7%
(Which i think was more like 13% in reality).

House prices and rent DOUBLED. Petrol, food, power, heating and water all went up ...food the most .
Charities are being inundated and even people who have jobs are homeless 🤷
@sunsporter1649 If it is Bidens fault how come the rest of the world are feeling it?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Ozymandiaz Bought any gas lately?
@sunsporter1649 I have bought unleaded petrol

Something odd happened with our electric bills last year. Customers received a letter from the power co. saying the rate was going up and this would result in an increase of $80/month for the average customer. Sure enough, when the bills came in next month, mine had gone up by $80 and Mum's by $120.

There was such a protest... including competition from city hall who began arranging for lower rate service from another provider, that the rates went right back down again the next month! People can only stand so much of this nonsense.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Unless someone is supporting you everyone has wheather they know it or not.
@Virgo79 Yep
SW-User
In England definitely.

The main cost increase has been winter fuel. It has doubled, and the provider wants £1000, in reserve.

Food costs about 40% more, and portions smaller.

The excuse for the first is the war in the Ukraine.
The second is leaving the EU.

We also have stealth taxes, with thresholds not going up with inflation.
This is blamed on Covid.

The government will not admit to mishandling the economy.
So it’s Ukraine, EU and COVID!
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
since March every month has been another kick to the nuts, through the wallet
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Yep. The Government released a report the last month saying amongst many things, that the average adult citizen earns $85,000 a year. . . I'd like to know how these c#nts came by that number.

I got extra hours, quit smoking (which is really costly in Australia), and don't go out on the weekends now - petrol is too expensive .
And I fast now and then.
So I'm breaking even ....just.

It's gonna hurt if it gets worse .
@revenant I've tried to quit so many times it's not funny . Tried all the ways ...the medications and crap.
What is working for me (besides being poor 😂), is :
-First ...I cut down ....over two years. I got down to about 10 a day and got stuck there .
- Then I substituted with vapes . You can get them in different strengths of nicotine ...or nicotine free. (I went with nicotine at first and have been using lighter and lighter strengths over the last few months)
- Now I have two vapes: One is 5% and the other is nicotine free. I try to use only the nicotine free one ....which of course I don't - but it's the goal not the little fails that counts .

The goal is to get to totally nicotine free, and then work on replacing the physical habit.

It seems to be working so far. It's WAAAY cheaper than cigarettes, and I smell like blueberry crush 😄

I figure this is gonna be a long game .... Maybe another year or so of working towards quitting.

But the vapes have been an AMAZING help - they are like a halfway deal. Better than patches or sprays or gum.

I mean, we all find out own way . But this has been the most successful for me so far.
I'm currently 4 months in and only one cigarette in that time ....and it was awful .
revenant · F
@OogieBoogie you have one heck of a will !
@revenant well...we'll see . I'm not holding my breath .
But then ....that's also what is good about this transition : ANY step is better than I was five years ago smoking 25+ a day .
If I stay vaping ...I stay vaping 🤷
Wages disappear as soon as they come in
@V00doo Yep!

Not personally, but I’m not the one who pays the bills
@SW-User Fair enough
Yep- no pay raise with rising prices and bills.

Yes of course, everyone has been affected.

Pre COVID and war in Russia,my weekly shop for a family of 5 would be £100,now it's judging over £150,plus increased fuel bills at home and for the car.Had to sell the 2nd car,and now cycle and get life to work ..tough times
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
My bills have gone up, the cost of food and gas have gone up.

Thankfully I am able to afford it but there are many people who cannot.
empanadas · 31-35, M
Yes, it's the main reason why I want to leave the USA. Why pay so much in a place where I can get shot
@Ozymandiaz Asia, according to some articles I have read, seems to be the cheapest costs of living now, followed by Central America.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Ozymandiaz I have citizenship to DR and France via my mom being born in guadeloupe. I can always go there but I can't speak French. DR is pretty expensive. I was thinking moving to a nice part of Colombia since my GF is Colombian. It's really cheap there but the crime is crazy
@empanadas If you have French citizenship you can live anywhere in the EU
