Favorite Movie Soundtracks - Musicals

The first one I remember liking was West Side Story. Then probably Wizard of Oz. More recent I would have to say Rent and Wicked were played the most when we played CDs in the car. I’ll ask about non musicals another time.

I didn't like musical movies at all until I started going to live musical theater. Now I listen to the soundtracks of La Miz and Phantom quite often.
exexec · 70-79, C
@samueltyler2 I prefer Les Miz, but enjoyed Phantom and The Greatest Showman more recently

@exexec i hate to disagree, to me they ruined Les Miserable in the conversion.

@samueltyler2 I prefer the theatrical presentation, but enjoyed the movie, too.

West Side Story is my favorite musical!! All That Jazz gets silver, and The Young Girls of Rochefort bronze.
The Jazz Singer (1927) - - (just being a smart ass 🤭)

If Woodstock is considered a movie, then that would be the one.

EDIT - I'm tired and missed the "Musicals" part. In that case, there aren't many so I have to give this a thought.

@rinkydinkydoink lots of great movies about real musicians and some not so real like Eddie and the Cruisers.

@rinkydinkydoink I mean pretty much any movie with music theme. As opposed to say the Godfather which has a great soundtrack but does not have music as its subject matter!
Phantom of the Opera, Carousel, Oklahoma, Wizard of Oz, The Whiz, West Side Story, Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Blues Brothers, Tommy, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, etc., etc.

On My Own from Les Mis
All I Ask Of You from Phantom Of The Opera
This Is Me from The Greatest Showman
Hang The Bas*ard from Cannibal The Musical
All of King Georges songs from Hamilton

There are probably more, but those came to mind at the moment

4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@Penny now I want to know anyway. There’s so many great soundtracks that’s why I limited but I’d like to hear which one you like.

samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
As in original movies, or including shows made into movies?
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 shows into movies is fine. What ya got?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
