I’m so old I remember renting video tapes at blockbuster

Heck, I remember renting a Hollywood video.

Double heck, I remember renting at a mom and pop video rental store in the neighborhood

Video Wonderland was my jam. It was right next to K-Mart and used the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland as their logo which I'm almost certain they didn't have the rights to.

So many SNES games checked out from that little shop. 😌

I got at least a few hundred I bought from Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, and of course your local mom and pop stores from way back when. Took great care of two VHS tape players as well so I can view tapes at any time.

The problem is how do get rid of them all?

We rented from one called Movie World mostly, and I felt so fancy and cool when I would go to blockbuster with my friends.

I don't remember them at all, no. I do know about them but only because of my older siblings. By the time I was old enough they were closed down so I didn't really have the whole renting experience

Betamax machines were pretty chunky. They were top loading which made them awkward to find space for. The VHS format was more practical and eventually became the standard format of VCR.

We avoided Blockbuster in protest of their censorship of videos and their right-wing hiring policies that banned employees with long hair, beards, visible piercings,even women with more than one earring per ear.

I was in my bedroom from getting home from school until tea time, washed the dishes and then back to my room until bedtime - the joy of a step dad who hated you as much as your bio dad.

I don't think that I'll ever be able to live in a bedsit after that.

Apparently, videos are making something of a come-back, by film fans tiring of the streaming services. It will be interesting to see how that develops.
