@CrazyMusicLover I was always very particular about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. My mother established a rule that if there was a movie I wanted to see, and that movie was based on a book, I must finish the book before I was permitted to see the movie. And let me tell you, Willy Wonka didn't exactly follow the book.
It was fun, and Gene Wilder was delightfully unhinged, but it deviated from the book.
I'm one of the few people who were excited when the Tim Burton version came out, because they actually sang the original songs from the book.
(Don't get me started on Tim adding the character of Willy Wonka's father and making him an evil dentist. I don't see any reason for that.)

@LordShadowfire I've never read a book and when I watched Tim Burton's version for the first time, I was surprised to learn that it was based on Roald Dahl's story because I only knew him as an author of creepy/adult short stories (Tales of the Unexpected) which I really liked as a kid. Then I suddenly learned he wrote a couple of very popular stories for children and it felt...weird. 😆 Especially after reading The Pig or Uncle Oswald's story. 😅
Later I read Matilda and watched a movie shortly after but it's just...not the same.

@SleepingWithGhosts Which back then, before the sequels... Before the prequels... Before even the sequel trilogy, was just simply called Star Wars.
No episode number, no subtitle, just a pure, simple, unembellished, crystal-clear, plain-as-day, frank-as-Frankenstein, blunt-as-an-atomic bomb two-word title: STAR WARS!

Close encounters of the third kind.
Lots of weirdness.
Little explanation.
Terri Garr goes crazy.
One of Richard Dreyfuss' best performances.
