Did you see "A Clockwork Orange" when it first came out, circa 1973?

I think it was rated NC-17 when it was released and very controversial. Fifty years later, it would probably only raise a few eyebrows.

It seems to be very foretelling though.
AnnSteve · C
@ProfessorPlum77 science fiction writers have that
Iwillwait · M
@AnnSteve also the casset/tape wall stereo was like "Ultra Modern," unseen tech I those days.
AnnSteve · C
@Iwillwait those came out in the late 60s
nedkelly · 61-69, M
Never wanted to watch it
biandlargeny · 56-60, M
I was disturbed by the movie and when I first saw it 40byears ago. The book was very interesting
AnnSteve · C
@biandlargeny the lawlessness i understood, the correction was pretty extreme
AnnSteve · C
But probably better than jail for him
biandlargeny · 56-60, M
@AnnSteve probably. I saw it again many years later with a totally different take on it.
AnneHoney · 41-45, F
I saw the original almost 20 years ago. I doubt they could show it today. The rape scenes were far too realistic. That is why they were edited.
AnnSteve · C
@AnneHoney i saw it at home, so not sure what version it was
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@AnneHoney I only remember one rape scene. I have not viewed the movie in YEARS, though.
AnneHoney · 41-45, F
@ProfessorPlum77 The home invasion one as I recall it was near the beginning. I was upset my husband was hard.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
yes, to me it was totally weird, I hate to admit, i did not like it.
AnnSteve · C
@samueltyler2 im surprised. You like things not the norm
AnneHoney · 41-45, F
@samueltyler2 music was great
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@AnneHoney yes, that is correct
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
Disturbing movie but good.
Same with 1984
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@DallasCowboysFan I am rereading "1984."
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
@ProfessorPlum77 When it was published, 1984 was science fiction.
Now it looks like reality.

The world was divided into 3 alliances.....like today......US and its allies, China with theirs, Russia....

Ministry of Peace responsible for war - our Dept of Defense keeps starting wars everywhere in the world

Ministry of Plenty - rations food - now we have China and Bill Gates buying up all he farmland and taking it out of production

Ministry of Truth controlled the media - just like the MSM - Biden wanted to create a special WH position for 'Disinformation'

Ministry of Love arrested dissidents - Bill and Hillary have friends that die prematurely around them when they become a threat and everyone someone disagrees with the Dems they are racist or they are creating a hate crime

1984 looks a lot like 2022.

I don't think that movie would get made today. Too much violence; "offensive". Particularly the "Singing in the Rain" scene.
graphite · 61-69, M
@AnnSteve He's way too old.
AnnSteve · C
@graphite thats true
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@graphite Yes, I still remember that scene.
I tried to read the book but didn't have the patience. I've never seen the movie.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Yes, we saw it. Kind of a forecast of where things were heading.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@Heartlander That is very true!
Jm31xxx · 46-50, M
The movie sort of misses the point of the book
AnnSteve · C
@Jm31xxx i didnt read the book, what was the point?
Iwillwait · M
I have seen it quite a few times.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Saw it when it first came out.
AnnSteve · C
Yes, my husband and i watched it.
Byron8by7 · M
I saw it in early 1972. It was rather shocking at the time, but it would seem rather mild today.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@Byron8by7 I strongly agree!
Byron8by7 · M
@ProfessorPlum77 I think it is a great film.
I didn’t see it until 10 yearns ago..
Very disturbing mah droogie
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I agree with "very disturbing."
SoulAsylum · 31-35, M
Very good movie. First saw it 5 or so years ago.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@SoulAsylum Interesting.
I wasnt born, but did watch it when I was 19. It was disturbing, but not half as much as some of the films these days.
AnnSteve · C
@V00doo what did you watch that was worse
DDonde · 31-35, M
I've never actually seen it but I know what the movie is. Ironically my mother who is pretty sensitive saw it in theaters I think and "thought it was weird". That's all she said about it. I've wanted to see it before but I never got around to it and now I've lost interest these days.
