Who else here has BPD, known as borderline personality disorder?

So I was diagnosed with bpd about a year ago maybe more. I’m just now getting into therapy and it’s been helpful so far. My question is what is helpful to others who have BPD? I’m just trying to find solution so I stop exploding and stop with the impulsive decisions. What do what do y’all do? What are ways that you get out of your head? What do you do about your favorite person situation? What do you do about the splitting?

Wow I'm sorry you had someone attack you on a mental health post.

And honestly I've never been to a therapist even though it would be good for me but have you tried breathwork? There's tons of different things and kundalini yoga.

I would say anything that challenges you. I'm not a doctor but wish i had answers sorry.

@SatanBurger thank you yeah just people who don’t get it’s a real thing I deal with everyday. She or he for that matter can shove it

I have only known one person with borderline personality disorder and to be honest I don't know that much about their condition. I think you have the right attitude and the right spirit. Not letting people harass you and/or allowing them to affect your emotional strength. 👍🏻😊

Some people here (and I won't mention any names because they stand out all on their own) are just plain ignorant and misery always loves company. They're not happy unless you're making someone else feel miserable.

@Elisbch I couldn’t have said it better myself thank you
I have Borderline Personality Disorder. It is one of my six mental illnesses. One of the best things I can recommend to you or anyone trying to learn about it is to read the book "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me". My psychiatrist recommended it when I first got diagnosed. Do you know which of the four types you have? It's common for some people to show two at once. I show all three fully and most of the fourth, except I don't really show manipulation tactics, my Psychiatrist and other people have noticed.

I can't say much about what I do, because my symptoms could be different and some of the symptoms are other disorders tied in. So it's a little harder to tell which symptoms are which disorders, especially when one symptom matches multiple.

The push and pull to escape real or perceived abandonment is definitely the thing I struggle the most with. Because it causes a lot of unstable relationships. Friends, significant other, family... So on and so forth.

The only treatments that are really effective for this is trauma therapy. BPD is trauma based. They can teach you coping skills for riding out the impulses, but that's never been effective for me. I'm still no good at resisting impulses and risky behaviours. But I'm trying.

If I can help at all, let me know!

@Sassychick420 In my experience with being close to someone who has this condition I also notice this happening.

@PhantasmOfEcstasy that was a great book!

I was diagnosed with it years ago, but I have grown tremendously and found healthy outlets for myself. I feel those are labels and the more we hear we are something, we start believing it. I don't feel I am bdp. Ive completely transformed myself by stopping alcohol, finding hobbies, exercising and communication! I hope you can find some peace as I feel your pain💛

Ps. My biggest help is exercise and gardening. I spend a lot of time alone now. I accept my thoughts as they are, thoughts. They're not true. I try to embrace the awkward and I love uplifting others and giving them encouragement. I reflect a lot and use breathing techniques.

@SW-User I thrive on alone time yessss that’s a good idea thank you so much

I have had several partners who have the condition. Since having dated them, I have received awards and certificates for my studies on the topics of personality disorders, mental health conditions and learning disabilities, from various colleges.

Due to all of this, I have a profound understanding of the condition. Feel free to DM me if you would like some help, or just a chat.

I do not have BPD, but have loved ones that do. I have a mental illness as well (OCD and Depression).

What generally works is Dialectical Behavioural Therapy. Is your therapist doing that with you?

For me, despite not having BPD, I have found mindfulness helps for "negative" emotions.

@basilfawlty89 thank you so much

I have BPD and DID.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago. Don't believe those who say that psychological illnesses are lies.
Sassychick420 · 31-35, F
@ForensicExpert I’m not they are full of it

Yeah, I don't have an official diagnosis yet, but the facilitator at my court ordered anger management group a couple of years ago told me very specifically that she "wasn't qualified to diagnose BPD", meaning I definitely have it.

Unfortunately, I really have no clue what to do about it. I'm trying to get an official diagnosis from someone, but with Medicare, it's not easy.
Sassychick420 · 31-35, F
@LordShadowfire your absolutely correct. It’s difficult getting any kind of diagnosis when you’re on Medicaid. Medicare
Max27 · 31-35, M
My girlfriend Samantha does. I am bipolar 2 so sometimes we can clash on things. @Sassychick420
Max27 · 31-35, M
@Sassychick420 I take Zoloft and Lamotragine together daily. .5 mg Xanax as a release valve if I need to.
Sassychick420 · 31-35, F
@Max27 I can’t do benzos I used to be addicted to them I’m on hydroxyzine
Max27 · 31-35, M
@Sassychick420 I have addiction issues of my own… Never had any issues with benzodiazepines. I was prescribed Hydroxizine but I don’t care for it. It makes me sleep forever and they dehydrate me.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Not what i got but hope you find solutions to adjust to it.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@Sassychick420 I do try to understand things, I guess you have the impulsive type. I know someone who has been told they have bpd but not sure how they deal with it other than some meds they were given.
Sassychick420 · 31-35, F
@Subsumedpat yeah just put on a new med still adjusting
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@Sassychick420 I bet that is difficult, trying on e after another to find one that works.
I would guess you are not alone

@Summer2025 Yeah but you feel a certain way about yourself to comment such ugly things to people, you'd have to. You can't comment what you just did and not have something going on. So you're def not in a place you want in life. Don't make your weakness so obvious 😉
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Summer2025 I think I've just met my new special friend for the day.
