I have Borderline Personality Disorder. It is one of my six mental illnesses. One of the best things I can recommend to you or anyone trying to learn about it is to read the book "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me". My psychiatrist recommended it when I first got diagnosed. Do you know which of the four types you have? It's common for some people to show two at once. I show all three fully and most of the fourth, except I don't really show manipulation tactics, my Psychiatrist and other people have noticed.
I can't say much about what I do, because my symptoms could be different and some of the symptoms are other disorders tied in. So it's a little harder to tell which symptoms are which disorders, especially when one symptom matches multiple.
The push and pull to escape real or perceived abandonment is definitely the thing I struggle the most with. Because it causes a lot of unstable relationships. Friends, significant other, family... So on and so forth.
The only treatments that are really effective for this is trauma therapy. BPD is trauma based. They can teach you coping skills for riding out the impulses, but that's never been effective for me. I'm still no good at resisting impulses and risky behaviours. But I'm trying.
If I can help at all, let me know!
