If you moved out of state, what was your reason?

Work? Family? To get away?

My brother is trying to get me to move by him again and I’m starting to consider it if I don’t find a place where I’m hoping. It would be nice to get outta NY, I think 🤔

But even better to be closer to my from the start SW bestie who is never here, but we’re in touch off site.

Not me being more open to it just cause we’re already making girls weekend plans 😭

I've never moved out of state because we don't have states 🤔 I've lived overseas twice though and in three different cities in the UK. I can be anywhere tbh, home is a state of mind for me. It's wherever I'm settled. I don't have friends to worry about, I'm very self contained. I've already considered moving down south closer to London.

I might move in next door to you 👀😏

@ostfuidctyvm I got my pizza maker which is just as good, but with my sauce is even better! I make good Strombolis on my own too! And I have cannoli shaper things, I’m sure I can figure out how to make them just fine! Most importantly, I already checked that the supermarkets carry broccoli rabe and they do there 😬🤣
@MellyMel22 I went to Manhattan for Christmas 2019 but that's about as much as I've seen of New York. It's a bit like saying that I've seen England because I've been to London 🙄 I did like your Gatorade flavours and the fact that you actually see police on the streets. We don't have those things 🤔
MellyMel22 · F
@ostfuidctyvm Oh nice. I hate Manhattan, ever since I was a child I did.
My cousins in Atlanta and New Orleans want me to move down where they are. As long as Pop might need me, I don’t plan to leave. I’m hesitant about moving to a red state, in any case. But my family who hasn’t left the South all live in blue cities in those states.
MellyMel22 · F
@bijouxbroussard I can understand that. My mom will be behind me wherever I go. She refused to move near my brother because she doesn’t wanna be away from me. So if I go, she’ll go.

I've always lived in NY. If I moved, it would be for the weather. I like NC a lot, but California has always been calling me.
fun4us2b · M
@MellyMel22 It's a great place if you can find a job and make the economics work - the Carolinas are beautiful, I'm just a bit leery of the occasional hurricane and weather events...
MellyMel22 · F
@fun4us2b That’s understandable. My brother has a job lined up for me, but I’m not sure I wanna bartend again. It’s a good area where there’s money, but I just don’t know that I wanna do that again. We’ll see.
fun4us2b · M
@MellyMel22 That's not an easy decision...

The only out of state move I've made as an adult was moving back to Canada for a relationship when I was 19. We had started dating at fifteen when I had lived there before and we had done long distance throughout the rest of high school.
MellyMel22 · F
@thepeculiarpanda I agree, you def need a break from it!
thepeculiarpanda · 36-40, M
@MellyMel22 I just wanna go hang out in the north Georgia mountains for a while. Go get some good BBQ, hang out in the little towns up there, find a good coffee shop. Disconnect for a while. :)
MellyMel22 · F
@thepeculiarpanda Sounds nice!
I've never moved out of state, but we are considering it one day. The reason is because NJ is so congested.
MellyMel22 · F
@MsSwan It’s the same here! And with the new mayor even more people are moving to my area 😩
@MellyMel22 Oh gawd...
DrWatson · 70-79, M
After college, I moved away from New York because I received a good financial aid offer for grad school at University of Wisconsin - Madison.

After a few years there, I realized that I liked the American Midwest, and I ended up taking a job here in Minnesota.
MellyMel22 · F
@DrWatson That’s great! Sometimes different is best for some of us.
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@DrWatson Badgers! 💪
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
I literally live ten minutes from the house I grew up in. Same city. I’ve never moved very far, but if I did it would be for work, romance, or retirement.
MellyMel22 · F
@Ambroseguy80 Good reasons!
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
I want to move away from California. I had bad experiences from that state and hated it. I want to live up north where there's not a lot of people. Like Wyoming or Washington state to live up in the cold mountains.
MellyMel22 · F
@jackson55 I heard about that heat there!
jackson55 · M
@MellyMel22 There are other places beside Phoenix and Tucson. But if you have to have a job ??
MellyMel22 · F
@jackson55 I have a stepbrother in Scottsdale. Haven’t been there since he moved there.
Work is usually my reason, but you certainly could for emotional reasons as well.
MellyMel22 · F
@GohantheThird Hopefully it went well for you!
@MellyMel22 thanks. Haven't moved yet, but hopefully soon!
MellyMel22 · F
@GohantheThird Best to you when the time comes!
JackDaniels · 46-50, M
Moved for family and best move I ever made.
MellyMel22 · F
@JackDaniels That’s great!
It was to start over. Turns out I can't leave all my problems behind when I'm most of them.
MellyMel22 · F
@SooperSarah I hope things can get better 🤍
I move to a whole ass country for work. 🫩

I swear girls weekend plans have more influence than actual life decisions 😭 but honestly, being closer to people who feel like home makes a move way more tempting. ♥

Man I haven't heard from her since I took a break!!! 🥺
MellyMel22 · F
@mindstruggle Will do. Idk how you moved so far!! Though if I didn’t have kids I can see me doing it.
@MellyMel22
Been asking myself that as well lol
Yea I think you would. Where do you think it would be?
MellyMel22 · F
@mindstruggle London or Italy would be nice!
forestG · 46-50, F
Cheaper housing
MellyMel22 · F
@forestG That’s def a plus too!
Kiesel · 56-60, M
I plan on eventually relocating away from my home state cause I’m just tired of it
MellyMel22 · F
@Kiesel I could prob use a break from mine too. I hope you are able to when you’re ready.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
@MellyMel22 I hope the same for you 🤗
MellyMel22 · F
@Kiesel Thank you!
Iwillwait · M
Ioved to be closer to Family.
MellyMel22 · F
@Iwillwait That’s def a plus!
Lostpoet · M
To get away and forget maybe then I can forgive.
MellyMel22 · F
@Lostpoet That’s understandable. Hope you can sometime.
Family and better opportunities
MellyMel22 · F
@TurtlePink Good reasons!
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
Cost of living tbh
Jersey is so expensive
MellyMel22 · F
@JRVanguard NY too!
MellyMel22 · F
@TryingtoLava That’s what my brother keeps saying, but he wants me to move there 🤣
To move somewhere with better chances
MellyMel22 · F
@Bexsy That's always good too.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
I'm in Florida. It would be to get away from this state.
MellyMel22 · F
@ViciDraco I bet you have so many from NY there! So many go there. And where I’m thinking of as well!
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
@MellyMel22 There's a surprising amount of Ohio here, actually. Which is where I'm originally from. I'm down here for work though, so its not easy to just pick up and move. If I could, NY would be nice, but like upstate, not the big city. Minnesota seems nice too, and there are parts of Illinois I could go for too.
MellyMel22 · F
@ViciDraco Oh wow, I didn’t know that! Many are moving north of the city lately!
jackson55 · M
Taxes, fees and regulations. Got to be too much.
MellyMel22 · F
@jackson55 Taxes are craZy in certain areas.
jackson55 · M
@MellyMel22 California. Costs too much to live there.
MellyMel22 · F
@jackson55 I believe that!
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
where to? cali? 🌊
MellyMel22 · F
@StygianKohlrabi The majority of my brother’s neighborhood are from New York! He actually ran into someone he knows from NY on his street when he moved there!
StygianKohlrabi · 46-50, M
@MellyMel22 they probably think of you the way Portlanders hate Californians

MellyMel22 · F
@StygianKohlrabi My brother loves it there. He likes the people too 😂
