When someone betrays you, do you give them a chance to explain themselves or do you just remove yourself from their life completely?

I don't know I just feel that I could've said somethings but I didn't I just disappeared suddenly and aggressively without a trace.

I think it depends on a lot of factors and it's different with everyone.

Betrayal hurts, but soon I understand it's an aha moment and accept that they weren't meant to be in my life.
I don’t need their explanation.
Although it was a challenging lesson for me to overcome it and open new doors, it is a crucial aspect of life.

@Eyeinthesky what is the old saying about the door closing and a window opening!

With one I would leave them in the past where they belong, with another I might excuse their behavior because I don't have very many friends left to just throw another one away, even if it's the right thing to do. Like you said it just depends. Is a good question to ponder

When someone betrays me, I first look at myself. I should’ve judged better, seen the signs I ignored. Every betrayal leaves clues ... we just choose not to see them. So I take it as a wake-up call to grow sharper, wiser, and more aware ... an opportunity to upgrade myself.

I would generally prefer to talk to them, as much for myself as for them. But that obviously depends on the severity of it and I might vanish temporarily out of strong emotions and all.

It depends on the situation and the person, a mix of how close they are and how serious the issue is. I will -normally- give someone a chance to explain themselves because sometimes even direct evidence can exist within a context that was denied to me.

When someone betrays me their lies, even if just through their anctions, are already in place too strongly for me to trust anything else they have to say. But if they’re adamant about it I let them say their piece for their own benefit. Otherwise no explanation is needed or even cared for because the damage has been done at that point.

This is why I always try not to let things go too far. Is it too late for you to talk things over?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I don't know how I would react. I guess I'd need to process my emotions first to at least have coherent thoughts and speech if I confronted them.
I had that done to me. It really hurt

Betrayal is harsh. I leave them behind
Tumbleweed · F
Nope, I don't want explanations and excuses. I'm all done with them. Period.
Younameit · F
I would like to hear their side of the story first.

It depends on the kind of betrayal, the person, the circumstances.
Depends on who they are and how much I trusted them before.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard i hope that would be me

I usually just fade away. 😎

Deliberate betrayal's consequence is removing them from your life for good.
swirlie · 31-35, F
Oh yes, I always forgive them and then encourage any explanation they can quickly come up with, because the jokes' always on them, not me.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
Betray how? Consciously and intentional or ignorantly?

What's actually funnier to me is that I've never heard the word "swirlie" referring to a toilet head flush until I became a member of SW. I think that college prank must be a British thing or something because a few Brits on here were the first to raise issue with my username a while back! 😏
Trav2024 · 51-55, M
@swirlie I'm quite surprised, because swirlies were all the rage in my middle and high school days (ages 11 to about 15) and always involved grabbing the unsuspecting victim - usually me - by the ankles and performing the old dunk-and-flush. And, I'm an American. In the age range I mentioned, that was considered a terrible insult. But, your gymnastics club called you that with no toilet involved? Sounds cute.

I've never heard of what you describe as a high school prank until I joined SW, so I guess we travelled in different circles!
