Has anyone written the story of their life ( even a short version)

And found it helped you ? Or did it trigger you and make you worse?
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
If I tried it would only trigger me. I try to not think about the past at all
ChristipherPaul · 31-35, M
I wrote a short version of my memoirs from 2007-2009.

Girl I was seeing at the time asked "don't you have to be old/dead in order to write your memoirs?"

I figured, after a suicide attempt in 2009, tomorrow's not guaranteed, so start writing now.

I used to journal.my dreams. Had a real fancy diary even. But when id go back to read id get triggered so I'd just throw it all away.

@Eklipse what kind of dreams did you have?
I’ve put some stories of things about me on here. Some of it real emotional and traumatic. Even though some things were kind of triggering and it helped after they were up and I got my story out. idk why, though. I guess I just needed it told.
@SW-User it’s way hard. took me a long time to do it here. Like this one.

@SW-User This one was hard but I’m glad I wrote it.

@SW-User This one was probably the hardest. It was about my best friend who had taken her own life like 25 years ago. I did it to honor her memory cause I still miss her to this day.

It’s in a few parts because it was emotional and hard for me to write.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
I kind of did. It didnt help. Just brought up memories i didnt need. I found myself reading it over and over again obsessively trying to figure out what i cant remeber. Or if all the parts are there, was this real. It brought back flashback that i would get stuck repeating in my mind. It messed up my sleep.

It used to trigger me, but looking back, that's because I was trying to write a perfect novel,

my life story is basically my unfiltered journals that I use as a tool to sort out my problems
cycleman · 61-69, M
the confusion I have had with my epilepsy ...
but I have been taught not to trust others. major back turners are people in general. so I write for myself. a form of therapy.
I guess not everyone has triggering memories .. you wont know till you try if facing something traumatic.. some things are hard to talk about in the first place
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
I'm not interested in memoir, but I've used elements from my life to add detail and verisimilitude to my stories.
I have tried starting to write memiors a few times but it always gets forgotten and stuck
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
No, I'd be too paranoid someone else would read it and I wouldn't want that to happen.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
It helped even if it made some things resurface. I reccommend!
Wiseacre · F
I did a lot of writing in earlier yrs...it was definitely purging.
MissTaken · 36-40, F
Not me - I’m far to busy living life to write about it 🙂🙂
SnowedIn · 46-50, M
Writing helps. It's cathartic.
turnedtostone · 56-60, F
It put me to sleep
Babaloo64 · 41-45, M
