Not sure,

there are serial killers who get a thrill out of killing yet take precautions not to be killed themselves. Should they be locked up for the rest of their LIVES?

People like serial rapists / serial pedophiles / giving a life sentence ( the thing is they get out

@Charity that part ☝ you cant take a life and get 3 hots and a cot with cable tv in some cases, a full library and gym privileges. Its sick

Generally no. I think there are some circumstances that can justify it though, especially in poor and unstable countries. Like if you're in a country that's very unstable, you might not have confidence that your justice system can hold dangerous people forever. I'm mostly thinking of this regarding fascist movements, Islamist insurgencies, and criminal syndicates. Outside of extreme cases like that though, I think the death penalty is not necessary and the risk of wrongful convictions is too high.
@BlueVeins Yeah, a bullet to the head

@BlueVeins If your little girl was raped, tortured and killed, would you be ok with that person living
out their life in prison? people get used to prison after a few years and it becomes non-punishment.

Just incarceration.
BlueVeins · 26-30
@DogMan And? Worsening punishments does nothing to protect victims. It's just masturbation past a point.

for certain crimes yes
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@GoFish I agree with this also

I think a family member should throw the switch. If someone raped or killed my kid I could throw
the switch.

Monsters need to be terminated.

1. We know for a fact it does not serve as a deterrent, in fact the opposite is true -- criminals kill to try to get away with killing.

2. Our system allows too many guilty who can afford good attorneys to escape punishment and too many innocent people, for the same reason, to get convicted.

This leaves revenge and that's not a good reason to end someone's life.

@Northwest great point

No. I don't believe it should be done.
Adrift · 61-69, F
When you hear the details of some of these crimes, and look into the faces of the victims loved ones, what would your answer be?
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@Adrift Honestly it depends on the circumstances if there's 100% proof without a doubt that the person was guilty then yes, i think that the punishment should fit the crime. I've seen way too many stories of mistaken identity or the actual criminal coming forth when its too late.
trollslayer · 51-55, M
I don’t think it has ever worked as a deterrent for crime, but it has been used to wield political power. So my answer is no, but I think all convicted if life sentences should be allowed to elect that option if they found that the better alternative.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@trollslayer good answer
ninalanyon · 70-79, TVIP
@trollslayer
I think all convicted if life sentences should be allowed to elect that option
The problem with that is that many who are wrongly convicted become suicidal so offering execution still kills an innocent person.
bookerdana · M
I don't think so
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@bookerdana thank you
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
I used to have a firm belief in it, (even though in Canada, there is no death penalty) but after a while, there comes a time when certain circumstances in one's life takes what you believe in and shakes it to it's foundational core.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@Sidewinder so very true. There was a story on Mr Ballens podcast about a guy in jail whose doppelganger was in there also ppl would come up to him and say things like oh you're not going to speak to me and they would get mad at him and he didn't even know them. I searched the story and they look alike turns out the other guy actually committed the crime but what if, he was put to death? Also theres ppl with twins who grew up apart who never knew the other existed. My worst fear would be to end someone's life who was innocent.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
@ninalanyon thanks ❤
For murder and child molestation
