Generally no. I think there are some circumstances that can justify it though, especially in poor and unstable countries. Like if you're in a country that's very unstable, you might not have confidence that your justice system can hold dangerous people forever. I'm mostly thinking of this regarding fascist movements, Islamist insurgencies, and criminal syndicates. Outside of extreme cases like that though, I think the death penalty is not necessary and the risk of wrongful convictions is too high.

@NativePortlander1970 Any legal process sufficient to ensure this would massively outspend its value. Even the US's "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard costs way more than just life in pridon due to legal fees.
