The term 're-gifting' seems to have been in the vernacular for quite a while...at least 10 years I think, but gifting, not so long. Guesting, I'm not sure.

@amethyst1 Re gifting sounds okay, gifting on it's own or 'to gift' are nauseating and need to go away quickly.

Possibly an Americanism; I’ve heard it before. ”Guest” as a verb, I’m not as familiar with.
But the word that actually makes me angry is ”conversate”, popular among some kids. What a useless abbreviation !
"Converse” isn’t short enough ? 🙄

@bijouxbroussard A zee instead of a zed 🤣

@JimboSaturn I’ve not yet heard "socialized” in that context. But I’ve been retired. It used to amuse me when “corporate-speak” would recycle words and change their meanings.

@bijouxbroussard Short enough... shorter, even!

I’ve never heard guesting, but I hear gifting a lot.

Apparently it is grammatically ok, but just not used much. It's recent popularity makes its seem incorrect.

@JimboSaturn It's making me wish Christmas was over 🤣

@BlobbyMcBlobface I would like for you to be gifted the elimination of the word gifted.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
I think similarly with ignoring the difference between nouns and verbs: the commute, the weekly shop, and similar.
Nor do I like that silly pretension of historians and novellists to ignore all tenses but the Present.

@ArishMell It often gets called 'language evolvement', when in fact it's lazy teaching and failure to correct infantile grammar.
exexec · 70-79, C
I can't make myself use it as a verb.
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
@exexec Me neither, unless I'm calling someone 'gifted' which means something entirely different. It's a horrendous abomination which has crept into our everyday language out of nowhere.

@Nunki Not in the same context.

Lol you’ve been around for a century so I’ll take your word for it @BlobbyMcBlobface

gift has always been a verb as in, To gift the artwork to the museum.
