When did the word 'Gift' become a verb?

The same with 'Guest', everyone's suddenly gifting and guesting everywhere. It's doing my head in 🤣

I think similarly with ignoring the difference between nouns and verbs: the commute, the weekly shop, and similar.

Nor do I like that silly pretension of historians and novellists to ignore all tenses but the Present.

@ArishMell It often gets called 'language evolvement', when in fact it's lazy teaching and failure to correct infantile grammar.
