In general, yes. The Moon is a great place to build humanity's first long-term extraterrestrial colony. Could be useful for launching probes and stuff, teach us more about physics and therefore juice the economy moving forwards /w new tech. I think you could make a decent argument that we should table those plans until we get this whole climate change thing sorted though.

Expansion and exploration has always been this way. When the colonists came to America many died on the voyage. More died trying to make settlements in the new world. Some plants, animals, natives, disease and weather killed some more again. But we persevered. We didn't give up as a people. We will continue into space taking baby steps. Yes, some will die. Then we will try again and again and again. Slowly we will explore then colonize space just like we did in America during it's infancy. We never quite moving forward.
We have no idea what the earth and some other planets will be like in 500 years. I believe then, much like now, we will push further into the unknown. Many mistakes will be made and many will die during our expansion and exploration but still, much like now, we will persevere and we will not quit!

@itsoeasy NASA is launching the most powerful rocket they've ever built this weekend, to circle the moon many times (I don't remember how long it will circle the moon). For some reason there is a renewed interest in the moon. I don't see why and the gov. is not disclosing why. Maybe they know something we don't.
I don't see them spending this much time and money to circle the moon again just for the hell of it. They must have a good reason to do this and I would like to know what it is.

It would be a good place to build a launch pad for future solar system missions.
And if there is enough water we can make fuel there.
And maybe there are some minerals.
It would be a good place for a telescope, too.

@JoyfulSilence theres nothing there of use, in previous missions, they found nothing, there sno water, no gravity,it snot a planet

technology hasn't progressed far enough for colonization of space yet, let alone enough to be self sustaining. Not sure what all the fuss about Mars is if they're completely reliant on Earth for basic resources/supplies.
Especially when things are strained enough on Earth as it is.
Assume we did send people to mars, and the overwhelming expense and political tension led to a collapse of governments & economies, and all support ceased...
What would these "colonists" accomplish other than taking a one way 8 month trip just to die shortly after arriving when they run out of supplies?
Sounds like the most expensive funeral in history...

@wildbill83 yes,i often wonder if humans came from another planet maybe, mars, and having destroyed it, explains the missing link
If as alleged, we did it once, if not more times, what’s suddenly behind this desire to go back?

@soar2newhighs this is my worry, as why suddenly go back after 50 years,it makes no sesne
@itsoeasy I not only agree but ask as you do…why?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@soar2newhighs Good thing Horace Greely was not adherent to your policies
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I would rather them spend money on imaging like James Webb and unmanned missions. More important science can be done that way
hunkalove · 61-69, M
It might be a good idea if no children were going to bed hungry tonight.
Grateful4you · M
I totally agree. Besides, Ben Shapiro is scared to death they are considering a gay women to fly this time. Such a tragic little homophobe someone needs to push him out of the closet.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@Grateful4you it does, climate change is destroying earth, we need to go back to nature
Grateful4you · M
@itsoeasy Yep, I have a bit of sloppy prose on the exact subject on my homepage, perhaps check it out sometime "Gracias La Vida" (dedicated to my friend Joan Baez)

@Grateful4you ill check it out, cheers

It is the first step towards colonising other planets. As a species our long term survival is a low probability while being on one planet only.Becoming a multi planet species our long term survival is a high probability. As a bonus the moon has helium three, vital to nuclear fusion.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@tallpowerhouseblonde helium 3 is foundon earth as well, much cheaper to mineit here surely
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
@itsoeasy there is actually very little helium three on earth and an abundance on the moon.Obtaining helium three from the moon is often cited as a reason to go back.
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
I like the idea...its inspiring and it shows vision.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@ButterRobot of what? they went there before ,found nothing, didnt go for 50 years,
The earth won't last forever even if it is taken care of. What would you have us do. Stay on this one planet until the sun expands or a solar flare or cosmic ray hits us. It's stupid to have all your eggs in one basket.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@canusernamebemyusername we cant live on the moon, its useless, no point going there, our earth will survive, even if the humans all die the actual planet will be fine
Tracos · 51-55, M
what else would those dollars be spent on?
more military stuff???
or rich people bailouts or rich people tax cuts?

{@itsoeasy] 🤫 so am i missing the point of your question do you mean it as a second human colony
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@smiler2012 Makes a lot more sense just to properly manage our current planet
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@smiler2012 the moon is a sattelite which regulates our earth, we really dont want to mess with it
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@JimboSaturn exactly
Steve42 · 56-60, M
If Spacex does it how does it involve tax dollars?
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Steve42 SpaceX subcontracts for Nasa...
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
Far better to spend that money giving it to illegal aliens
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 how about spending th emoney on us cictizens, like hospitals or schools
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@itsoeasy LOL, where do you think those engineers, scientists, and technicians at NASA come from?
checkoutanytime · M
Space waste, rings a lot of bells to me, as an environmentally friendly person.
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@checkoutanytime exactly we need to do less space travel, i mean ho wmuch pollution will be released whenit fires off

@MalteseFalconPunch becasue if they set up a moon base. soon it will be militarised, missiles etc, wars, could move the moon in its course, and mess with out weather etc
stratosranger · M
Another billion dollars wasted. Good to know the budget is balanced 🙄
itsoeasy · 56-60, M
@stratosranger i bet it cost 100 billion dollars

There's nothing on the moon of any consequence, however there's definitely something else out there and we're just bringing them on us with all our "trying to discover" space thing.. The problem with humans is our assumption that we are the most intelligent beings 💯. You don't know what you don't know and you can't assume to know better
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@SW-User i always ffind it funny when they say there cant be life there.
How do they know when they dont know what kind of life they would find.
