is going to the moon a good idea?
it will cost billions of tax dollars, might not even work, and surely the moon is something best left alone

In general, yes. The Moon is a great place to build humanity's first long-term extraterrestrial colony. Could be useful for launching probes and stuff, teach us more about physics and therefore juice the economy moving forwards /w new tech. I think you could make a decent argument that we should table those plans until we get this whole climate change thing sorted though.
