is going to the moon a good idea?

it will cost billions of tax dollars, might not even work, and surely the moon is something best left alone

It would be a good place to build a launch pad for future solar system missions.

And if there is enough water we can make fuel there.

And maybe there are some minerals.

It would be a good place for a telescope, too.
