Do exercise bikes help with weightloss?

I was curious if exercising on a recumbent exercise bike can help get the weight off of my joints? As it is, very few things don't irritate my knees.

I would love to know.

Any exercise can help with weight loss provided you don't eat more to compensate. An upright bike will burn more calories than a recumbent bike. An elliptical trainer might be the best all rounder. Your legs are supporting your weight on an elliptical machine but it's easy on the joints because your feet don't leave the pedals so it's like a cycle in that respect. You will burn more calories on an elliptical because you use your whole body.

@fazer1k yes, already bought it on Amazon. Can't wait for it to come. I've already been warned to take it easy.

@darktippedrose Good luck! And yes, taking it easy is always safer at the start. As you build fitness you will be able to work harder safely.

@fazer1k thank you. My leg muscles are super weak so its going to be quite a while as it is.
Yes they do. So long as you workout your body and SWEAT, that's a workout.

Watch what you eat too... try eating less calories and more veggies and white meats.

As part of an overall weight loss plan any exercise you can do regularly will help especially if it's something you enjoy or something that doesn't hurt your joints like you said. But the biggest effect will come from a change to your diet which doesn't necessarily mean eating less and definitely doesn't mean going hungry.

@SW-User I'm doing intermittent fasting right now. Most days of the week and I just recently found a fasting groove thats working for me.

@darktippedrose That's great that you have found something that works for you. The exercise bike will definitely help.

@SW-User Thank you. I'm trying.

The fitness industry won’t admit this but exercise is for cardio and other fitness. Dieting is for weight loss. Mixing the two is how the fitness industry keeps in business.

A recumbent bicycle will take the pressure off your knees better than a normal cycle.

Btw, I do love your photo and your user name is very sensual!

Exercise is great but don’t over do it, weight loss can be achieved by lowering or cutting out carbs and upping you proteins intake.

Easiest way to work out without pressure on joints is in water. Find a swimming pool and work out

Cycle bikes give you a better workout, but if you have knee problems, you better start with a recumbent bike. You’ll still burn calories, just not as much as on a cycle bike.
darktippedrose · 36-40, F
@marsbar What is a cycle bike? is that like a spin bike?
marsbar · F
@darktippedrose They are bikes used in spin/cycle classes at the gym. So it’s to help simulate riding a bike outside. You can even use cycle shoes that clip onto the pedal. So instead of sitting back like on a recumbent bike, it’s like you’re on a real bike. Sometimes they’ll have a couple on the floor with other cardio equipment. Otherwise, they’re in a cycle room if they have cycle classes at your gym.

diet yes combined with exercise, swimming is good as no pressure on your joints. as for bike do sprints if you can, as fast as you can go for 1 min and then slow speed for two mins, rest period and then sprint fast for 1 min etc and repeat

It could be bad for your knees...
Im not sure but if you have problems with your knees maybe swimming or generally exercising in water could be better for you (Not 100% sure though)
darktippedrose · 36-40, F
@Signus I don't have access to a pool.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Weight loss is simply eat less calories than you use. I use exercise to get fit. I don’t exercise my jaw to lose weight. Exercise alone is a very inefficient way to lose weight.

What has saved my knees is an eliptical trainer. No stress on the knees. Every once in a while I get brave and try to jog again until my knees give out and I have to quit for a few months.

Bad knee, try exercising in the swimming pool if you have access to one.

Swimming. That’s the trick.
