As part of an overall weight loss plan any exercise you can do regularly will help especially if it's something you enjoy or something that doesn't hurt your joints like you said. But the biggest effect will come from a change to your diet which doesn't necessarily mean eating less and definitely doesn't mean going hungry.

@SW-User I'm doing intermittent fasting right now. Most days of the week and I just recently found a fasting groove thats working for me.
