Any exercise can help with weight loss provided you don't eat more to compensate. An upright bike will burn more calories than a recumbent bike. An elliptical trainer might be the best all rounder. Your legs are supporting your weight on an elliptical machine but it's easy on the joints because your feet don't leave the pedals so it's like a cycle in that respect. You will burn more calories on an elliptical because you use your whole body.

@darktippedrose The easiest on your body including your back will be a recumbent bike probably.
