How do you feel about living in a cashless society?

The Federal Reserve came out today to say that new cash will not be given out at banks, for Christmas. First the coinage shortage and now the paper money. Tracking and control? All this BS, needs to stop and now but so many do not understand or care.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
this will hurt the poor more so , like we all have money in the bank and can use our debit or credit cards , not always the story and i know what i'm talking about , me still with no cell phone , yes its a struggle to be a have's not in a technology growing society
they don't do it to care for people, just to keep tabs on them.. its a control thing.. nothing to do with compassion @FurryFace
its going to happen regardless .. the electronic age
I don’t use cash, so no difference.
Oster1 · M
@LeopoldBloom I do and care but really, thank you for visiting and reading!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
People are hoarding cash rather than spending it.
The idea is to take the highest denomination of note and refuse to create anymore until those currently out there get back into circulation.

Theoretically creating a market for cash.

This idea is fine until the idiots asking for it realize that sooner or later all this cash will end up in Switzerland where western governments can neither control it nor the dodgy companies that send it there !

The other thing is the money being made in what's known as 'The black economy.'
This refers to folk who do jobs for people unofficially and get paid cash in hand without paying any form of taxation nor national insurance.

On THAT one pick anyone from bar staff to Waiters and Waitresses to part-time cab drivers to babysitters to gardeners to......you get the idea.

If EVERY employer had to REGISTER their staff, they could then pay them in ARREARS into REGISTERED BANK ACCOUNTS and so the government and banks would see every cent you make and (ultimately) REFUSE you certain 'perks' you currently have by virtue of how LITTLE you make ! (credit cards; debit cards; life insurances vehicle insurance; home insurance.....)

It is concerning, makes me wonder if I should invest in cryptocurrency and use that instead of cash. I don't know anything about it though.
Oster1 · M
@whowasthatmaskedman I do respect your opinion. History has shown such but I was not trying to be arrogant or elitist in my thinking. I really wasn’t. For me personally, I have to believe in this. It’s the way I have been raised and groomed. I have spent my whole career doing so with immense responsibility for others. I hope you can try to understand my position. I do belive in the greatness of America. Vast mistakes have been made but I assure you the citizens didn’t want things to be this way. No countries citizens want this. We want to live our life free and what is best for our families and loved ones, no matter what that family consists of.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Oster1 Then I hope a start is made come November 3.😷
Oster1 · M
@whowasthatmaskedman Hahahaha, Yes, I do too!😁 It’s been a pleasure discussing things with you and @SatanBurger. I really enjoyed this.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
many poor people can't live like that , we still need cash to be around
Oster1 · M
@CestManan Once again, your words are so powerful. You speak to many and I so appreciate that!🤗💗
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Oster1 are you being sarcastic? I mean I wouldn't mind because I'm pretty sarcastic myself I'm just curious
Oster1 · M
@CestManan No of course not. I actually mean that. You are making a very valid statement to why people need cash on hand. I appreciate your comments on this. Let there be no doubt!🤗🌺
Oster1 · M
@SW-User Exactly! So nice to know you see!💙

@Oster1 As long as I have, at least, one eye left.
Oster1 · M
@SW-User I like you! That’s a great outlook.😊🌺
BlueVeins · 22-25
lol, as if they couldn't track and control paper money.
Oster1 · M
@BlueVeins But so what? As a younger man, don’t you want your freedom?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Oster1 Yeah, but to me that means electing government officials who won't do that kind of shit to begin with, rather than basically accepting that they will and going from there. Government surveillance is a wide-reaching issue, even in developed democracies, and will require us to vote in officials who'll represent our disgust of it.
Oster1 · M
@BlueVeins Thank you, man. Yes, I understand you!👍

Cash is the only analogue medium in a digital world. Its days are numbered for better or worse.
Oster1 · M
@Picklebobble2 I thought you supported, was I wrong in thinking that?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Oster1 No i'm very much against getting rid of cash.
Oster1 · M
👍 Thank you!@Picklebobble2
Potential risks.
Increasing loss of privacy; financial data is hackable.
Inability to prevent hacker fraud; there is no lock that can't be picked.
What happens when a storm destroys power lines and the electricity drops out?
The most disadvantaged, those who have no bank accounts, would have no means of buying food and essentials.

Potential pluses.
Money can carry and transmit Covid and other future viruses.
Paywave or mobile phone payments allow safer hygeine.

Alternatives.
Barter systems are great, but often difficult to create agreements on exchanges.
LETS (Local Exchange Transaction Systems) require someone to bankroll the fundamental asset, or very high levels of trust and cooperation.

Wow i never thought i'd see the day when this started to happen in the US.
They really want cashless in my country as transactions are more trackable and accountable for tax purposes.
But if they actually got rid of cash completely, people who want to use cash would just find something else like casino chips etc.

While a debit card is handy for online purchases, occasionally here the EFTPOS lines have gone down in the supermarkets and if you don't have cash on you when they do, you're left with a trolley full of groceries that you can't pay for. It happened to me only a couple of weeks ago.
revenant · F
You will have to be a "good" citizen or they will stop you from taking the plane or bus. Social contract like in China
@revenant social contract will be “the Mark” oh yes.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
My SW bucks might actually be worth something some day?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@FloorGenAdm yeah I'm sure all the damn prostitutes that have onlyfans accounts would just love to have SW coins
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@CestManan 🤔
CestManan · 46-50, F
@FloorGenAdm I don't mean anyone on here but just especially like YouTube how every other person has an onlyfans account
CestManan · 46-50, F
They have been talking about a cashless society since at least 1995 that I can remember.

How do I feel about it? Bad idea because who wants every last cent of their spending tracked.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Oster1 Our grandkids will be hearing about it happening "someday".
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@CestManan But worse than that it narrows your personal CHOICE.
There are so many big but useless companies out there.
Over bloated inventories for basic things a small business would sort instantly for you.
But if the small business can't use cash as either leverage when quoting a price for a job or as a way to undercut another company, poor small business guy goes bust !
Oster1 · M
@CestManan I don’t have children but I love them and don’t want to see them live under this ridiculous life!🤗💙
how can people redeem cans and bottles
how can people buy weed
how can people cheat the welfare system
??????????????????????????????????????????

OMG

can't do it.

I like Andrew Yang's plan more. Oh wait many other social critics like that stuff and not just...ONE politician

@IstillmissEP Me too but damn, we were just conspiracy theorists.👍
CestManan · 46-50, F
@IstillmissEP I tried to look this up a couple hours ago on the web and couldn't find anything recent.
Oster1 · M
The story came from Orange County’s Credit Union. I’m looking for the link now.@CestManan
So every penny I make is audited.. will I have the same access to politicians records and the corporations they share my info with. as they do mine?
Oster1 · M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout As you know, it doesn’t work that way. It’s men like you and I who will have to fight this and train the younger than us.👍

@pagandad Wow, I actually agree with you.
There is no such thing as cashless. Currency just changes types every few centuries.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@canusernamebemyusername I wonder if bartering would get bigger if they went cashless? If I'm not mistaken that's the oldest form of so-called currency.
Oster1 · M
@CestManan Correct. Bartering is the way when the system brakes down during any crises. Example, I could take 4 boxes of ammunition to the local hardware store in exchange for materials but the caveat is the power company will not. It’s purely local and between interested parties.
Oster1 · M
@canusernamebemyusername We are talking about physical cash and coinage but you are correct.
I love nuts, especially cashews, walnuts and peanuts. I worry about living in a cashew-less society. It weighs on my mind.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
And that is why smart people dont hoard the highest denomination of note. 😷
FurryFace · 61-69, M
it won't happen over night , and it will piss off poor people
Randie · 61-69, T
The next step of our downfall!
😡
Oster1 · M
@Randie For sure!
Frank52 · 70-79, M
I believe it was going that way in Sweden. I went to one shop where I was told only cards were accepted (probably did other electronic methods, but I don't do those generally). However, I think they put the brakes on recently. No doubt someone living there can update me.
Randie · 61-69, T
F that!!!!!

Cash's value is as much of an illusion as numbers in a back account. It could hurt poor people, though.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Every time I hear cashless society, I think of a post-labor resource based economy without any form of money at all. That excites me, and I'm sad I probably won't live long enough to see one. But then I just realize you mean no paper dollars or coins and I really can't be made to care one way or the other really.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@CestManan Not true, you'd simply upload/download from your crypto wallet.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@FloorGenAdm Yeah but wouldn't it still be traceable and lockable?

I do not know much about crypto stuff.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@CestManan Traceable probably, but your "wallet" is password protected.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I really wouldn't care. I rarely use cash as it is.
