Following the recent updates, and as we continue to consolidate the groups, we've made a few improvements. 👍
Improved Edit Post options 📝
We used to have separate "Edit" buttons - one for changing the Title of the Post, and another to edit the Body of the Post. And if you wanted to edit the Type/Mood of the post, you had to first press to "Edit" the Body, and only then you could see the "Edit Post Type" button, almost hidden.
To simplify that, now there is only one Edit button, which is located at the top-right corner of the post:
Which opens the following 3 options:
- Edit Post Edit the title, the body and the rating level of the post. - Edit Post Type Change the post type/mood of the post. - Move to Group Move this post to another Group or Category.
Move Post to Group 🛸
To help you with fixing mistakes and to better categorize your posts, we are now allowing users to move Posts to other Groups/Categories.
If you press Edit located on the top-right corner of the Post, you can select the option "Move to Group", which will present you with the following screen:
Please note that it's possible to edit the Post Type and Group/Category only once per post.
Moving a post to another Group/Category does NOT bring the post to the top of the Feed.

Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to stay with us.
We are constantly listening to your suggestions, so please keep giving them to us, as they are very important to the future of Similar Worlds.
@OogieBoogie pretty simple let's say u made a post and u put it into the game group by mistake. Well now u can change the group and put it into the movie group like u wanted.
@OogieBoogie Instead of 2 different edit buttons... one for the title and one for your actual comment, you only have to use one edit button now.
After you post a message, there in now a way for you to move that message to a different group if you have a need to change the discussion group it is in.
I really, really dont understand the purpose of all this...
Thank you again for all the effort, but One thing that I really cant appreciate is the inability / carelessness of the admin in seeing how unhappy most of us we have become with all thses changes...
1. Isn't our feedback important to you??
2. I know this place is not EP, but what's wrong with using their best practices that made users happy, practices such as allowing them to create their own group...
After all, this place is for sharing OUR experiences and similarities ..... we would like to title it as IT MATCES OUR EXPERIENCE THE BEST
3. What you have done has limited us in sharing what we have to say and has made us less interested in posting our stories...
what's the use of going through 3 different steps to make a group and for information, sometimes I cant find any similarities in any of those steps that can match my story....
4. It is ok to accept that this was a bad idea and it will be ok if you make the "group" chosing a more userfriendly feature... we would really really appreciate you even more if you change your mind about all this...
5. Why not ask your users to participate in voting about this ... it will provide you with a feedback from your users, result of which can help you to make better changes...
@PirateMonkeyCabinet Well thought through ... excellent ideas ... nobody adds more than 2 groups a month(to your point) ... but everybody adds at least 1 unique to themselves (also to your point)
I can understand merging groups like "I wear hats," "Who wears hats?," and "Hats are what I like to wear," for example, as they represent the same tenant of thought and doing so may actually expand the base for people to discuss wearing their hats. However, categorizing it in a drop down menu system does not hold true to the organic model that was EP, where people could post similar groups, but different enough with experiences. Sure, there were overlaps, but merging those groups of the same thought would be fine, without categorizing the entire site in a drop down menu to suit people who are not grown up enough to ignore that in which they are disinterested in the main feed. There were many topics I did not like, or want to participate in that group or thread, but I just moved on without clicking on them, and my sensibilities were not aflutter.
This is the problem with responding to one contingent and modifying the structure of a format like EP that came over to this site, where once you start, you create issues with different groups; whereas when it's moderated for illegal content, and flame wars, for example, you can legitimately tell people that they can click on what they like or do not like, and ignore the rest. Categorizing and moderating adds another layer of bureaucracy, and I saw someone post that they got a warning for mis-posting during the transition, which alienates people who don't follow the new logic, and disincentives people from wanting to contribute in the first place. I probably don't contribute enough to warrant a voice, but I see the frustration and the pitfalls in trying to be like every other site.
Thank you for the ammendents....its all a bit much for me personally to take on board at once.
@Nuno Are Random posts still going to come under fun and games? I really dont like that. Some people may post something very sad or difficult, but cant find the right group, and finding it comes up as fun and games can actually be quite upsetting as it kind of poohooos the seriousness of their post. I hope you may be able to amend this somehow.
@RubySoo I understand. However, for Sad/Difficult topics, users can choose one of the categories under Struggles & Identity, like Life, Struggles, Tragedy, etc:
@Nuno i just feel that sometimes, when you are feeling low and are reaching out you perhaps want to post where it will get the most reaction and perhaps 'random' feels it might get more views? However, i really do feel putting all random posts as fun and games is rather insensitive.
Could you make it so that there won't be an "edited" watermark, after editing a post or comment? I don't feel like it's needed, and I always end up deleting and re-uploading, instead of editing, because of it.
@Sheer The reason we show whether a Post/Comment has been Edited, is a bit to avoid abuse of that feature. For example, if someone makes a post asking if people like to travel, and users reply "Yes", and then the post is edited to say something really bad/illegal. At least there's a public timestamp to show that the post has been edited after those replies.
The edit history isn't public, so there shouldn't be much of a reason to delete the post to post again.
@Nuno I understand, I just feel like very few people would actually do something like that, and when I saw it happen on other forums, it was always apparent to everyone that the user had just edited the post.
I understand that not many people have this issue, but because I have OCD (I am actually diagnosed) a lot of SW's features makes it hard for me to use your site. I also delete and re-upload posts because when someone leaves an unnecessary comment, and delete it, there will instead be a message saying: Comment deleted.
To name another example, when you commented on another user's post, and they blocked you afterwards, you were unable to delete your comment from their post ─ I don't know whether this is still the case.
By the way, last mentioned is why I created so many profiles in the past (because that comment will be shown in Replies forever). I never tried to hide my identity, or anything of the sort. I never really cared much about the communal aspect of your site, as I just want to use it to share some of the things I write, such as short stories and personal experiences. I realize it's probably difficult to empathize with the issue I have, but I kind of just wanted to let you know my reasons. 😅
One question. Since “I want to share a thought of the day” can no longer be posted to… the next closest remaining group is “Thoughts”. But why is that group linked to “struggles and identity”? Thoughts are associated/related to tons of base related things
And doing away with “I want to share a thought of the day”, is really a bummer
We have a "Random Thoughts" group that you can use for sharing thoughts of the day. It was also under "Struggles", but we've just moved it to "Random" instead:
Random > I Have Random Thoughts https://similarworlds.com/random-subjects/random-thoughts
We've also now reinstated the "Thought of the Day" group: https://similarworlds.com/inspiration/thought-of-day
@Nuno is there a dear diary or daily journal? I never really have a story. I just feel like expressing my feelings — to the universe — it makes me feel better that some random person might read it
Thank you for trying to improve the site and responding to any issues we have.In my opinion, this is the most civilized site on the internet and it would be a HUGE loss for many of us if it folded.
You are trying to force fit "good order" into the lives and languages that came here to be free, creative, imaginative ... who sought escape from the daily pressure to conform to good order.
Well meaning you are ... but you are running people off
9 major interesting high frequency writers have quietly departed
Others have reached out to provide me sacred contact info. First time ever.
We need the ability to create our own groups, with all the embedded double entendres, misspellings and personalizations we desire.
If you can not do that ... or do not want to ... you are simply AnswerMug, in Europe
Hey. The [ sep] option is there still, but may be hidden on smaller screens. It's the 3 buttons icon. At the moment we don't have plans to add new options. What option would you like to have?
@SW-User Groups and Categories are implemented in a way that there can only be one direct parent. There may be categories/groups with similar names, but with a distinct meaning - for example the inspirational Quotes (under Career/Business) and literary Quotes (under Art/Books).
One reason we don't plan to link groups to multiple parents is to avoid some posts getting more exposure than others, just because it was posted on a group that is linked to multiple parents, and therefore appearing in more Feeds than other posts appear.
This seems so over the top for making posts. I already struggle making post with the previous update that was just released 🤨. So far these recent updates that are related to the posts/group have seem to be more of a hassle, and just frustrating and annoying for majority of the users. Which seems to be the opposite of what updates should be ?? Why add more steps to an update users are already complaining about and struggling with ?
Mostly seem like improvements. Previously there were so many similar groups it was ridiculous and many were empty. I like hats, hats are good, look at my hat etc etc.
I get why people might want to create a new group but even a quota like 2/month can create many near-duplicates. Instead just build in a check. Like “Did you mean to create a new group <Bowler Hats> instead of using an existing group <list groups with similar names>”. If yes then a new group must be approved which may take 24 hours, like moderation.
@BlueSkyKing Hello. Thank you for your suggestion.
We strongly considered moving it to Science. However,
Most times (+90%) someone mentions "Evolution" online, it relates in some way, to Religion.
Science & Technology is a very big field, and we don't see much reason for people to discuss Evolution in huge amounts, if it is under Science & Technology, without Religious reference.
Just to clarify, we don't consider "Evolution" as a "Religion". It's just categorized there, as it's one of the Biggest Theory/Science, to refute Religion.
@Nuno 85% related to solely Christianity. You can say the same thing about climate change but that wouldn’t go under religion. Yahoo Answers had it the science category. Other religions are less aggressive towards evolution. There are universities worldwide that have evolution as major part of biology degrees. You can’t be a biologist without a working knowledge of evolution. It’s as factual as gravity.
@Elessar I understand, and I see the mismatch now. Unfortunately, for some reason Football has a different meaning in USA (the "American Football" game), which causes a lot of confusion between that and the real "Foot"ball game.
While we tried our best to merge the 'Football' groups into 2 proper distinct categories, many groups had the 2 different games all mixed up in the groups that have 'Football' in the name.
This proves how important it is to have Categorization, and why we created 2 distinct groups for each of the games:
American Football https://similarworlds.com/soccer-football/nfl
So, going forward, users can post in the appropriate group, and can also fix previous Posts, moving them to the most appropriate group. I went ahead and fixed your post now :)
@SayYes2Life The "Skip Categorization" does not bypass any Maturity/Rating filters. It only skips the Post Type/Mood and the Group settings. If our system detects your post as being Adult, then it will be marked Adult no matter what.
@Nuno I think that was a silly one, although I do appreciate that things get automatically marked to protect younger users. Although, I don’t even know the age range of this site.
I’d like to see a blog section like in the early days of EP. I have no interest in categorizing any of my posts. I just want to write freely for myself.
@Nuno I also just realized my other post was tagged as adult which is ridiculous l. I guess the word panties did it? I’m literally talking about potty training! There’s nothing sexual in that post at all. Just makes it creepy
Thank you for the update but after the consolidation why not allow us to go to our groups folder and add a post..where would I HAVE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL be categorized??
@Andrew Thanks..I know whenever there are site changes there is flac...it looks like although clicking most of my groups there are POST buttons,it appears my I Want To Walk Through A Busy Mall Naked group bit the dust😂 I'll survive I think I'm thhe pnly one who posted there..if I get stuck there's always miscellaneous
@SnowBlack I've had some positive results by asking for specific categories. Before I spoke up, there were no categories for paganism in the religion section.
Beware of allowing adult content labeled as such since anyone can open an account without age verification. If something posted in a public place is not suitable for all audiences, consider upgrading your standards of decency as some minors may be searching for adult content in a place which allows it as long as it's properly labeled.
I'm waiting for update for games here since 4 years. Also please make an app for similar worlds. I don't why this site became so typical and doesn't improve much. Please move forward from 60-70s.
@Mellowgirl Seriously though, I shouldn't have said what I said. I'm trying to be a positive person here, but I'm old and grumpy and sometimes my thoughts just spill out.
People here are no different than any other site I've visited.
I had to leave Fb because I got sick and tired of Fb encouraging people to hide in the shadows and report people as Fb gave them the tools to do so. They should change the name to ReportBook
@Stereoguy Good. Other people may have made mistakes, or some of our merges may need manual corrections. We're just giving users the option to do so. Whoever doesn't need it, doesn't use it.
