An important question we would like to ask also, [b]more specifically towards iPhone/iPad/Apple users[/b]:

[big][b]How important is the existence of a SW App to you? ([u]iPhone/iPad users[/u])[/b][/big]

Ideally, we would love to have one also, although, there are a lot more hurdles and barriers, to successfully publishing an Apple Store App.

Upon our research, we made a hypothesis...
which is that [b]iPhone users are a bit more "Comfortable" with using the phone's default Browser (Safari)[/b], than Android users are.

As many Websites and Services do not (and cannot) exist as Apple Store apps, it's possible that iPhone users have become accustomed to using the default web browser for munch of their daily online activity.


Can you please comment on this (iPhone/iPad/Apple users)?
Please share your views and feedback.

Always have been happy using browser on android and probably will stay.

Apps take up more space so frankly if it becomes an issue an sw app is never going to be at the top of my list to keep so more likely my usage would drop.

Plus with push notifications etc I can mimic an apps behaviour anyhow.

My concern will be if the app appears if we get divided development with features only available in the app. That annoys me on other systems, [b] [i] access to features should be universal and deployment agnostic. [/i] [/b]

An app will probably attract more users which can be good as long as it's within moderation's capacity and doesn't exceed it. Also not sure how it works out but will there be more threats of spam bots when releasing the app? I think that's what happened with EP.

I personally prefer browser based because it takes up less space. But I'd also like it if we had more diverse base of users.

Why an App for Android & iOS makes more sense. Excuse my terrible grammar.

1. [b]Ease of use[/b]. Easy access. On the go experience while staying always connected.

2. [b]Enhanced user experience[/b] by utilizing notifications, messaging, [b]in-app purchase ease of use. [/b] Operating system built in features can enhance the user experience.

3. [b]Battery life savings for better user satisfaction[/b]. Using cellular data on a mobile browser vs an app while on the go will drain battery far too much vs using the app.

4. [b]Dark mode[/b]. Many users have been begging for dark mode. With iOS 13+ and android 10+ with embedded dark mode in the system software, it becomes easier to add to the app.

5. [b]Speedier experience[/b], it is likely things will load faster as an app vs web browser.

6. Broader range of users by [b]utilizing the accessibility features for those impaired.[/b] iOS and Android come with their own accessibility features that can be utilizing on the mobile experience.

7. A more personal experience. With the security features provided by iOS and Android, users are more likely to engaged with similar world without having to worry too much about [b]privacy[/b]. Specially when iOS and Android are pushing for stricter privacy experiences.

8. More likely to have an interesting experience none boring. It will become easier to post photos, more personal topics and stories.

9. More features for vip users bringing in more cash.

10. An App will reach out to a larger audience. Again, more likely to bring in more money. Also, more likely to better the purpose of this site.

14. With Apple’s new silicone chips for their laptops coming as early as October or November. They’ve introduced a developer feature to allow an app to basically be copy pasted into their laptop interface from their iPad/iPhone interface without any issues. With Apple pushing to make their own chips for their laptops, many other companies will follow. Many people use chrome vs native browsers and that eats battery. Native apps for laptops will eat less battery.

I’d prefer an iPhone app. Could you please sort out the chat/messaging set up. The current need to refresh the browser window to see a new message sux big time.
I’d also appreciate if you guys only deleted offensive comments off the public forum for obvious reasons and leave messaging alone when two consenting adults are messaging in private.

I’ve become so used to using SW in the Safari browser, I’d have to get used to an app 🤷🏻‍♀️ So I probably prefer browser on IPhone. I rarely log in from my laptop.

If there was an app I’d try it out...but Im not a fan of change so I’m cool with just the browser

I download and started using the app today, so far so good. Using Android.

I predominantly use my phone for sw. An app would be great.

Would have been better if this had been split into two separate polls: Preferred system (iPhone, Android or Desktop), and preferred mobile variant (iPhone App or Browser, Android App or Browser).

I much prefer using desktop simply because it is more screen real estate, more ergonomic for me, and I'm a slow typer on mobile in general. Still though I do use it on mobile a fair bit too, but since this is a single-choice poll choosing Desktop masks the fact that given a choice when on my Android phone I would absolutely choose an app over browser.

Browser for me. I personally hate superfluous apps wasting resources and space on my devices.

I have an iPad, PC, and Android phone that I use simultaneously based on where I am, and I'm sure there are others like me. Incognito browser mode is what I prefer no matter where I login from.

I prefer the browser..i have no space for more apps.

Browser so I could just clear history rather than installing/uninstalling the app everytime. If ever the app requires payment there will be less users.

I prefer laptop as I usually use it because using any web page on a cell phone is not real ergonomic.

I can see the attraction of an app. and i understand why some would prefer it to directly going to the site.

Personally i'm not into Fakebook or twatter or any other social media so for me it's no biggie.
But i can see the potential for attracting new users via a downloadable app.

Only question for me is if you create an app does that mean you have to make any compromises in order for 'stores' to 'stock' it ?

On my Android phone I prefer an app (homescreen icon, no address bar, optional push notifications) but the current offers all of that already. Would a Google Play app provide anything in addition to that or is it only so it's easier to find and may attract more members?

Browser is enough for me. I save to my screen. And gives me alert for messages and comments. I hate bunches of apps on my phone taking large space. Pulling it out from the browser serves the purpose enough.

Even with the browser, the site drains my android battery. I can only imagine how much faster an app would drain it. So, personally I'd prefer a browser over an app. I jump from my phone to my tablet to my laptop. Depends upon the time of day I can log on. I'd rather not have to load an app onto multiple devices.

However, if the site is accessible by both an app and a browser, you'll leave the choice up to the user and I think you'll likely find a broader user base with the additional option. I guess it depends upon the expense vs anticipated income. Only you'll be able to forecast that. Cheers.

I use my phone (Android) for SW almost exclusively at this point. I'd like an app if it still maintained all the functionality of visiting the website on a browser. But ultimately, I don't care how I have to use SW as long as it exists. And I don't think the website is cutting it in terms of attracting new members and keeping people here if the number of people that have complained about not having an app is anything to go by. A lot of us here, especially the people from early EP, are used to using niche browser-based SM but most people just don't anymore.

An app is fine on one proviso - it does NOT force you to view ads either direct/through the site itself like Facebook does, or banner ads like a large number of websites do to generate monetised 'viewing' revenue.

I use facebook hardly at all now because of the forced ads. I will not use almost all dating sites for the same reason.

Also I will not ever use or own an Apple device so if an app supports Android I might be interested. If it only supports Apple IOS then it's lost cause (for me at least).

I’m happy with the browser. I use it via my iPhone and it’s perfect.

I doubt I would use an app. I'm on a Chromebook when I use the site.

I don't want an app, because the app stores tend to cut down the older phone versions, so some apps don't work on the older phones, and I don't want it to end up being that my phone is not advanced enough to run SW.
So browser is the best - for everyone.

By the by, Discord has a PC app that is not reliant on the web browser being active. I vote for SW to have the same, since that is not one of the five options.

Hi Andrew, I would like to say that I can’t reply to anyone in the comments section of their albums.
I got this problem recently, and the person I have tried to respond to his pictures with are on good terms with me. I could sometimes get it to work at first, but now it won’t let me do it at all (from the times I have tried it).
Can anyone tell me if they have a similar problem/experience with and can you (Andrew) please try to explain/help why this is happening?
