Am i the only one who saves bacon fat

My grandmother used to save it and use it. It's basically bacon flavored lard. She used to fry chicken in it, and used it as the base for the roux in her white fried chicken gravy, (aka Country Gravy or Pepper Gravy).

I have one of her recipes for wilted lettuce salad, (the only salad my grandfather would eat), which calls for hot bacon fat, mixed with sugar and vinegar, to be poured over tender leaf lettuce.

I DON'T dump bacon fat down the garbage disposal, because I don't imagine it would be good for the pipes in this building, but I DO save a plastic jar with a lid when I buy bacon, so that I can dump the fat in there and then throw it in the trash.

Butter, bacon fat, and pure lard are the least healthy fats. It is better and safer to use olive oil in recipes that call for butter.

I like the idea of putting a little bit on cat food, but I wouldn't do that if the bacon contains nitrates...because the nitrates in bacon are carcinogens. They have Applegate Farms bacon without nitrates.

Oh no, your not the only one by far. That was my own mother's favorite thing to do and she was south eastern European. Yet that's a tradition even in the south. Grits in bacon fat, for sure!

You are not. I use a dab or three when I feel like eggs over easy and a few 'taters.....
Btw, historical nifty fact about bacon fat; during WWII, housewives and butchers all over the country were mobilized to collect cooking fats for conversion to explosive ingredients. One pound of waste fat equaled 1/10 of a pound of glycerine.
On a singular level, you may experience that to a lesser extent out yer sphinctorial stove pipe after a good breakfast.😁

No. I leave it in the pan for the next thing needing a base of fat to be cooked in.

Savin bacon fat is healthier and tastes best. As if most people didn't know.

Naw. Keeping bacon fat for cooking vegetables and such is great.

Of course not. In some areas you can buy bins of bacon grease. Some nice things to fry with it include corn tortilla shells and Brussels sprouts.
