Have u ever been on food stamps before ?

I was on it back in 2020 during the pandemic. I have not been on it since then though.
Now that I think about it, I should have also filed for unemployment, too.
But I went back to work like 3 months after the pandemic started.
I just got tired of sitting at home and living in fear.
I believe a person should be on food stamp assistance if they really need it.
Dont you. I mean, I would rather you have an EBT card than for you to go out and rob someone.
But it seems that lately, peoples benefits have been cut off. The good news is that it is now back on.
But you will only get half of what you had before, just in time for the holidays.
Have you ever been on foodstamps before. 🤔

I don't have any problems with someone on public assistance as long as it is a crutch and not a lifestyle. But I have a problem with politicians and public employees giving them to illegal aliens for political favoritism and vote buying. They should prosecute the employees that do this. It's theft and takes away from those that really need them.

I have know a few people that needed them, single mothers that were part of the working poor that could not get them because they 'made too much', but illegal aliens get them and people that are not doing anything to get off them.

We all pay into the system that permits them and there should not be any shame to receive them if they are necessary.

I have never been on any kind of public assistance. Sometimes I had 2 or 3 jobs, my wife has always worked. I have been blessed to always have a job; I am 59 and haven't been unemployed since I was 18 years old. I know people who have had struggles and wound up on public assistance, and I know people who have abused the system practically their entire life. Welfare is a necessary thing, I am not sure the government should be in charge of it though. It should be a helping hand, not a career choice.

@Roadsterrider wow, that is sad. I could mention so many i cared for that were not like your experiences.

@Roadsterrider I went to the VA about a month ago and the LVN (2 year nurse). told me she was making $45 an hour, because there is a nursing shortage and the VA has to pay what it takes to keep people employed. She said that the VA pays the most money in the Dallas area.

@DallasCowboysFan I am in PA, $12 to maybe $30 an hour here depending on skill level.

No there was a time when I was the breadwinner for my ex husband and he worked out it would be best I resign as we'd qualify for a lot more benefits and they would grow as we had kids. I refused as there's no way I'd raise kids in a council home and sit at home all day. Both he and I were able bodied and should of been working. Some people do need handouts, and they are the ones who should ve getting them.

I just read that 20% of US medical students had food insecurity! They pay enormous tuitions and go deep in debt, and can't be sure when or where their next meal will be. No wonder they look for careers in fields that earn higher income rather than primary care where the need is greater.

@Zonuss i once actually worked out the math. A medical student eventually net worth will not likely surpass that of a licensed plumber or electrician until at least their mid-40s. I did that math though, when students loans were at believe percent and inflation was much lower than today.

@samueltyler2 Construction workers make more than most medical students.
And trust me we see them all the time here on the water.
They drive the most expensive trucks on the market. 🙂

@Zonuss sadly, I know. But, eventually I was able to save enough to have a nice retirement.

One of my best friends was. He was a successful business man, but went broke when his wife divorced him and took everything except his debt. He spent his last few years in poverty. When I was visiting my hometown, I would take him grocery shopping so he could use his food stamps. I gave him money to cover the extra. It was a sad case.
Yes! When I was younger and with a brand new family. The help came in handy, and that is what it is there for.

@Notmesam Great.

No. There was a year when we were just married and I was in grad school when we would have qualified for food stamps, but we did not apply. We just made it the best we could.
