My Grandparents used to have it every year, but I don't see it often anymore. Seems like most people don't know what it is.

We eat them in Canada. Most of the mincemeat is eaten in the form of tarts. I will have several this Christmas as well.

@Roundandroundwego Of course. It is sold in jars in most grocery stores.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@hippyjoe1955 we had that up til 2019. Not anymore. It's fancy and we're poor! It's not eaten by our managerial class. Haven't seen a plum pudding in ten years. The poor would eat one but the rich are the CUSTOMERS.

@Roundandroundwego Always loved plum pudding. I also loved carrot pudding for Christmas desert.
I’m sure some Americans do even though it’s more a British dish
Many here watch cooking shows where Well known British chefs tout their recipes that are common in their home. So many adventurous cooks here try said recipes. .

My mother made mince meat pies many times during the holidays when I was young and everyone from the family would get together.

They do sell them here in most grocery stores. I have never cared for the flavor, because I don't like raisins...but I have tasted it.

No. Nonesuch isn't made for us, no brands are already made and people certainly can't follow a recipe like that! It's too expensive to get the ingredients, and mentally people can't do all that.
No plum pudding, certainly the fruit cake is just cake with a little fruit in it. Americans not really mentally aware of anything!
There's very little variety coming to our stores,! People are poor.

Mince tarts are big in Canada
exexec · 61-69, C
My family did when I was a kid.
TheFragile · 46-50, M
Never had it.
I haven’t had a real mince meat pie since I was a kid, what they call mince nowadays is just chopped apples, raisins and walnuts in a spicy sweet mixture.
It’s not the same thing anymore and I don’t like it much

I think here they are referred to as mincemeat pies. I remember my mother and grandmother having them as a young boy. I was never too fond of all the spices in them. Oddly, I do love fruit pies best.

We also had syllabub, another old British dish. I think the custom came down through the aristocratic side of the family.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It's not really a big thing here.
We may eat one at Thanksgiving, but it would be made into a big pie not the little ones.

Mince tarts appear to be more common. I rarely see mince pies.
