There's a hot chicken counter in my local supermarket. We occasionally go in early evening and get a reduced one for a couple of quid. Last week they knocked out organic uncooked stuffed chickens in a roasting bag. We were amazed how easy to cook it was and absolutely delicious.

@Crazywaterspring I want to get some chicken breasts when they put them on sale and grind them up to make a chicken meat loaf and also meatballs and homemade chicken nuggets. . We used to make a chicken meat loaf at the congregate meal program for Seniors and it was simple to make and really good. Ground chicken, chopped celery & onion, an egg, salt and pepper and then bake it. It was so good I learned to make it.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Cod is nice but always make sure it has been frozen.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Crazywaterspring I do, I buy it frozen. It is wild caught American cod too. Hard to find wild-caught fish in a lot of stores but the lady who works back in that department says she tries to get as much wild-caught American fish as she can to sell. That was a bonus for me to learn.
All the time. And we get their pizza too. Whole 18 inch pepperoni pizza for ten bucks. Hard to beat.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush Their snack bar has some bargains too.
BizSuitStacy · M
I do go to Costco, but never have bought a rotisserie chicken.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BizSuitStacy If you like chicken they are good. Not near as expensive as making one. They may be loss leaders for the store to lure in hungry customers and once they are walking around they usually buy more stuff. Like the colorful items on the end caps on the way to the chicken area.
BizSuitStacy · M
@cherokeepatti the whole chicken I've bought on sale for just under $3 per lb...and they typically weigh about 4 lbs. Uncooked 😂 Quite a bit more than Costco's
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BizSuitStacy yeah that’s what I mean. But I can buy chicken at Winco and get a better deal on it. They always have something on sale, breast, bags of frozen wings, and sometimes whole chickens but not too often with those.
BrewCityBarfly · M
They sell them at one of our grocers 2 for $12. People buy 2, however, if you buy one it's $6. I buy them if I don't think I'll have enough leftovers from cooking over the weekend.
Funny thing, it never occurred to me that I can use them in recipes calling for chicken until someone mentioned it to me.

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BrewCityBarfly oh yes, fried rice, chicken soft tacos or enchiladas, and other recipes. I have made chicken salad with them too.

SW-User
I don’t buy it for myself as it’s too much for me but it was so nice, Americans make a simple dish like chicken with rice and peas so tasty
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User At my age I have to. But also with this boy, who is 16 now, he needs that too. He devours that fried rice and never gets tired of it. Have it about once a month. He doesn’t care for most restaurant food now. Never asks to go out to eat even fast food. Doesn’t like the flavors. He knows the difference now.

SW-User
@cherokeepatti wow if a teenager picks homemade meals over fast food your food must be next level tasty 🤣
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SW-User He will thank me nearly every time after he finishes eating telling me how good the food is. By 4th grade he refused to eat cafeteria food and I was making his lunches every day. He doesn’t like processed cheese slices on a hamburger either, I buy real cheese and we use that instead. He went to visit his aunt and told me she had grilled hamburgers and use Kraft cheese slices on them. Said it didn’t taste good but he was too polite to complain and ate it. If you eat real food long enough you lose your appetite for the processed imitation food. Canned soups for me after I retired and had time to start making more homemade foods. And processed cheeses, anything with artificial butter flavoring, and many other things I hate the flavor of now.
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
theyre $10 standard at most supermarkets here...
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout that one says $4.50
TheOneyouwerewarnedabout · 46-50, MVIP
@cherokeepatti 4.50 a kilo..
The total is under it

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout ooooh well whole chickens have gone up here too but not usually that much.
AbbeyRhode · F
I don't belong to either of those. I get the ones in the grocery for $7.99. Still not bad.

@OldMan70 It is and I won’t spend a lot of money to grab something from a restaurant. I can make a little salad or whatever to go with that chicken. Or make sandwiches with it. If I am by myself I usually cut off the wings and eat those when I get home and we have the rest for dinner.
Dacrowman · 70-79, M
I have bought some in Costco and a rack of ribs and a portion of chips from chippie on way home 🏠
DrWatson · 70-79, M
The local stores here sell them. One in particular uses less salt than most, and that's where I go when I buy one of these.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DrWatson I have read that not having enough salt can actually make your blood pressure go up. You have to have the proper balance of electrolytes. My sister was a nurse and decided to do healthy things, started walking, stopped smoking, laid back on the salt. Her blood pressure went up as a result
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@cherokeepatti I am not absolutely salt free. But i consume salt in moderation.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DrWatson I guess I do too. I don’t eat fast food or overly processed foods that also contain MSG, which is another form of sodium..probably as much as they salt they use in the foods. That stuff makes me have heart palpitations so I read labels and avoid all of it.

Yesterday as a matter of fact
4meAndyou · F
I used to belong to Sam's Club when I lived in Michigan, and yes, I would get the $5.00 roasted chickens. We don't have a Sam's Club here, but Super Walmart sells them here for $6.47.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou they are a lot smaller at Walmart though.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
All the time. Then boil up the carcass.
Sevendays · M
Costco but it is a ride so not often. I used to live closer and hit the rotisserie chicken. I like it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Sevendays We have one in a nearby city that has a mile long shopping district that I love to do business at. Just a bit further than driving to the other side of this city and shopping and it’s is so convenient to go down the street and stop at each store and get what we need.
Sevendays · M
@cherokeepatti there's a mile long stretch in Lebanon, NH that is all stores. That's a longggg ways from where I live now though.
robingoodfellow · M
They're about 10$ in my supermarket but it's still a pretty good deal.
metaldog · 51-55, F
yep, rustle up a salad and some rice easy, healthy and delicious 🙂
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@metaldog have done the same
Convivial · 26-30, F
Agreed...a quick easy meal with leftovers for a Chinese noodle dish the next night🤗
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Their cooked chicken is much cheaper than raw or frozen.
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
I love their rotisserie chickens! Delicious and cheap.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Sams is always tasty
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Patriot96 It is and it’s not small chickens like some local stores sell either.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
@cherokeepatti dinner for two and sometimes have ribs. We havent tried the ribs
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Patriot96 I give the skin & bones to two German Shepherds where I used to work. I save it for them if I am picking the rest of the meat off the bones they all go in a bag for them.
exexec · 70-79, C
Yes, we go to Sam's

@Stereoguy Yes it does. Gives me time to make a chopped salad and rice or whatever to go with it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Stereoguy How much other stuff do you buy when you go get a chicken? I usually don’t get less than $100 worth of items but all groceries or practical things like trash bags, laundry detergent, maybe a shirt or pair of house pants, etc.

The closest Costco is two hours away.
