@Stereoguy

I'm a coke man myself. I don't care what it is, it's a coke to me.

It's usually called [c=4C0073]Soft Drink[/c] here.. It's kind of become one word too..
WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F

Soda, plain and simple. Coca-Cola, or also known as Coke, is a soda.

Like, if you buy a Sprite, do you call it coke, or Sprite? I call it Sprite, and it's a soda. If I buy a Pepsi, that is a soda I just bought and it's called Pepsi. Here, there are Coke products and Pepsi products. So, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, and Fanta are Coke products. Pepsi, Mtn. Dew, Gatorade, Tropicana and Aquafina are all Pepsi products.

Good point. When 'Velcro' came on the scene they captured the market, but they're really 'hook and loop fasteners '. When you talk to people, they say velcro, no one calls them hook and loop fasteners. Likewise, when Coca Cola took the market in my region people just called soft drinks 'coke', and it stuck. Kinda like velcro, pun intended. Go figure.

@PatKirby Makes sense. If the only products sold there are Coke products, then it would make sense to call all Coke products Coke. But if I'm holding a Mountain Dew, I'm not going to generalize it as being Coke.

[c=002673]I am from a "Pop" area. I moved to a "Coke" area. I call them "sodas."
PS A lot of people here call them "drinks." [/c]
Soda, although it indicates this is a pop state, from what I recall that's an up north thing...

I have conformed to saying soda, to maintain civility.
Morrowind · 26-30, M
Soda even though I’m from the pop area according to that
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I grew up with soda, moved to a pop region, and I usually say pop now.
exexec · 61-69, C
Coke where I grew up. Simply a "drink" around my teetotaling friends.
Funlov · M
Don’t drink it not even in my whiskey
I have called them all of the above
