Right wing white people who complain about a fictional mermaid being black

Imagine how it felt having white actors playing historically non-white people?
You know...actual people who lived.

like the movie jesus of nasareth with a blond , blue eyed jesus 🤣

The hypocrisy is too much lol

Right wing Christians wouldn't sit next to Jesus on a plane if he actually looked like a middle Eastern person instead of a blonde and blue eyed
Elessar · 26-30, M
@deadgerbil A middle eastern person that spoke as a communist no less. There's zero chances he would survive until 33 this time, without getting crucified first by these christians

Well, my skin is white and apparently that makes me a racist these days 😒. Why are people like this? When and why are people just so obsessed with spreading hate but trying to make it sound like there being defensive?
Elessar · 26-30, M
@GuyWithOpinions I have a white skin too and no, apparently it doesn't. Literally no white person I know who's sane of mind has ever been called racist. Any single time I hear this line is from the "I'm not racist, but" types
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@GuyWithOpinions I disagree with your opinion that it's gone that far, but apparently, hating the fact that they redesign existing characters instead of creating original characters makes you a racist, or some such.

No, it doesn’t. Only you know how you feel.

But people are complaining because a fictional character wasn’t being played by a white actress.
If it weren’t an issue to them, nobody would be talking about it.
How many productions do you thing hired a Palestinian Jew to play this guy?

Pretzel · 61-69, M
the same people that paint Jeesus at a white guy?
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
Fictional characters - I really don’t care. It’s if they start messing with historical figures. Changing history to satisfy modern sensibilities wouldn’t be acceptable. But why people are tearing into Disney characters is beyond me.🤷🏻‍♂️
Elessar · 26-30, M
I mean, all the things that they used to get outraged at have phased out (vaccine mandates, Trump's loss, fuel prices), they gotta find something else to be outraged at
Gangstress · 41-45, F
The Indian guy in short circuit was played by a white dude. It still bothers me to this day
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Gangstress As well it should. But inaccurate casting is not what we're talking about. It's more like if Marvel were to suddenly decide to cast a white guy as Steel or Black Panther.

{@basilfawlty] 🤔it is sad in a way people readily show bigoted racial hatred

@basilfawlty89 It triggers you
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@MrBrownstone lolno.
Yep, imagine that…
(John Wayne as Genghis Khan)
(Marlon Brando as Emiliano Zapata)
(Chuck Connors as Geronimo)
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard Yeah, I know. It's stupid both ways.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Okay, get this through your head, because I'm tired of telling literally everybody who talks about this, so this is my final announcement to everybody.

It's all bad. Changing a basic feature like that of an established character or a historical person is bad. Regardless. It's not a fucking racist thing. It's a "Jesus Christ, are you too lazy to create your own strong characters of color?" thing.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@LordShadowfire They whine about purposefully designed, brand new characters as well lol. See the black elf immediately before the mermaid controversy.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Elessar Yeah, and you notice I'm not defending that. I complain about redesigns of existing characters because it's uncreative, and let's be honest, it's pandering. The folks in charge of the Lord of the Rings TV show did exactly what I've been saying they need to do for years. They created a new character of color, instead of randomly changing the race of a character. I support them.
@LordShadowfire but why can you not change the race or gender of an established fictional character?

Can James Bond be black? .... he's been scottish and irish why not black, or asian?
candycane · 31-35, F
I had a neighbor call police on me one time and she said to them if you stand on my bed and look out this window you can see them smoking weed.. The cop looked at her and said wtf u standing on your bed looking at them for. Mind your own business and they left
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@candycane You're lucky. In this state they'll sent out a SWAT team to surround your home, kick doors in and charge you with plenty of things over weed.
