Yes, but to a degree. I just need enough for my family and I to live comfortable lives, and enough to get my son off to a good start, when he goes, to and finishes collage. Anything beyond that I wish to have enough to solve at least one problem in my community, like build a couple of shelters with hot showers, for our homeless, but also make it a place they can use as an address for job applications.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I'm grateful that I wasn't born rich. I'd like to be moderately wealthy today, so I would not have to worry about my whole life crashing down if I lose my job and can't find another one. I think I would like three million dollars at most, at least for my own benefit, so that I would never really feel any pressure to work again. I don't want a fancy car or house or anything like that.

@BlueVeins I’m still seeing ads for 5%+ on CD type savings, but even 3% and 90K would work for me.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Heartlander Couple things --
CD saving rates change wildly over time. Rates are high right now, but they'll go down as the Fed cuts the Prime Interest Rate.
If you use up all the interest from your savings account, the actual value of your account will decline due to inflation.
If you actually wanted to use a CD account with 5% interest, you could only safely withdraw around 2% without causing problems for the time being. But obviously, that's painfully low, so most people invest in higher return assets like stocks. Stocks return ~10% a year. Reserve 3% for interest, 3% for volatility, and 1% for dollar cost averaging, and you've got 3% left.

Yes. Also paying down or paying off a house mortgage is the equivalent of a high interest CD, and at least for now, appreciating home values will overwhelm whatever the inflation rate. Car mortgages also, but be careful of early payoff penalties that go along with many car loans. That inflation is probably what keeps us old people holding on to our no mortgage homes. We are on the benefit side of that inflation rather than the bad side. And with no mortgage payment social security alone is enough to live very comfortably, and the IRAs only have to be tapped to meet the RMD requirement.

I don't want to be rich... but I do want to be comfortable.
I don't want millions, just enough to be able to pay bills and cover the odd emergency expense as they crop up - like the washer blew out or the freezer packed in. Maybe even get a brand new washer or freezer at least once in my life.

I'm comfortable where I'm at but wish I had more to help my family and friends with.

Rich is relative but feel free to send money.
exexec · 70-79, C
We are richer than 80% of people in the US, but most people would not consider us to be rich. I'm fine with what we have.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@exexec it’s what’s driving illegal immigration. US welfare pays more than Mexicos minimum wages.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
sure, i thnk me, and most people are money driven, coin operated. I wish I made more than I do but I don't do bad.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F

@Justmeraeagain And have enough money to live comfortably on.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Musicman Yes, if we were out of debt that would probably happen but we have the car ,and we have the house, and school bills.
We have to use our credit card for gas and sometimes even for food because the economy so good, lol.

@Justmeraeagain I definitely understand. ☹

Gawd, yes. It wouldn’t solve every problem, but it would alleviate most of the stress.

It would have made life much easier still
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Not really. Just having an income greater than expenses is good enough for me.
solitaire · 41-45, F
I wish I married someone rich and he'd buy me diamondssss
I consider myself wealthy already. Just super low key about it. Not trying to become a target or interested in consumeristic trends that are just to impress the poor.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
That would be yes.
Lauren19 · 26-30, F
How do you know I'm not?
