What is a dark fantasy?

I always thought dark fantasy was something that was distinctly sinister. Some people here would say it is sexual desire. Naturally sex is kind of a dark topic since Ideally only teenagers and adults know about sex. I know from reading stories here that some people don’t share my dry, boring, civilized upbringing, and so were introduced early to the subject of sex.

I don’t have any sinister fantasies as someone who wishes for a peaceful world and making small mostly steady steps towards being more able to bring peace to the world. Sexual fantasies? I had two, but lived one and it was not satisfactory. The other would be great sex passionate sex with a slightly older woman in a compost heap.

Its dark and gritty themes while still including things common in fantasy, in games you might find "dark souls", in tv theres *Berserk" id check those out if you want a feel for the genre.

Some peoples dark fantasies are other peoples everyday, normal life. This is a world with many unique people in it. Many.

To me, a dark fantasy is a sexual fantasy that is not a normal, everyday fantasy. A taboo fantasy. Take your pick. There are several varieties. Some are illegal in most countries. Most fantasies that people have are kept a fantasy. Some fantasies that are played out, actually ruin the fantasy.

Usually fantasy’s outside the norm that may contain abuse, non-consensual, extreme fetishes, and so on. Basically if it feels wrong in some way you could call it a dark or taboo fantasy

Stuff very taboo to the point you wouldn't really even be able to talk about it. Things that might get your blood moving but you wouldn't ever want to really happen to or for you.

I'm generally familiar with dark fantasy referring to gritty and misanthropic fantasy settings. The value of human life tends to be low and violence and misery are common.
