Tbh, I respect those who are respectable. But with me everyone gets the benefit of doubt. My default setting is respectful, regardless of age—until the person indicates that respect isn’t warranted.
I really miss volunteering for my lovely lady R. I was a friendly visitor.
R. was a senior with Alzheimer's, and she was such a light in my life!!!
I miss her very very much.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON we had a guy in our coffee group that started slipping mentally. It happened so fast.
@Spumoni Stuff happens so quickly sometimes. Life is so unpredictable.
I was a friendly visitor when R. was already dx with Alzheimer's. she was a senior and she still remembered me and my life, it was an extraordinary experience.
I treasure it always.

There are definitely times when I don't FEEL the respect internally, but I am always polite, and I behave as respectfully as possible.
@4meAndyou ditto dear.
It depends on who is the elder.
My default WAS / the way I've been raised is to always respect anybody older (an elder), no matter how evil or vile they act or are.
So, not the healthiest mindset and a dichotomy for sure.

I do. In fact 2 to 3 times a week I have coffe with a few retired firefighters, a helicopter pilot, and truck driver. 70s and 80s.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
Honestly at 67 myself I respect those older than me if they have earned my respect. The same holds for those younger than me.
exexec · 70-79, C
I don't know many elders, but I respect them.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Respect is earned, not just given. I learned at an early age not to trust adults. Still don't.

@Punxi 🤔yes i do rather an old fashioned ideal but also think respect is earned and not a god given right
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I am an elder. :(
bijouxbroussard · F
@ChipmunkErnie Me, too. 😊
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Absolutely and always
YoMomma · 41-45
That’s interesting..

The things I've seen my "Elders' do I've lost all respect.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
sadly, i am rapidly becoming the eldest in my groups.
Depends

A fine, correct, and sobering observation.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
there are fewer and fewer every year that are aolder than me. but yeah
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Yes I do pay a certain degree of respect and exception
ABCDEF7 · M
Always, and unless they prove they don't deserve the respect.
rinkydinkydoink · M
The few that are still alive - yep!
Pfuzylogic · M
Eventually the memories of the 1960s and 70s concerts will cease!
Easygoing1234 · 46-50, M
That's pretty powerful actually
I try to, unless they give me good reason not too
Submissiveiendencies · 26-30
Yes I do. I visit a nursing home and give a couple of my grandfather's old friends hand jobs and blow jobs🥰
Easygoing1234 · 46-50, M
@Submissiveiendencies no way

Respect should be given or withheld based on character, not age
@BlueGreenGrey Yup.
