A friend of mine had a good rule for naming kids ... I think it still applies well !!!

If you can't get your kid a license plate with their name on it when they visit Disney World, you've gone too far off the deep end naming them
RockVolleyGirl · 18-21, F
@NCCindy Good rule. I agree. 😆

Any that is...

- the name of a place or other geographical word, the name of a season or similar;

- supposedly "trendy", pseudo-mystic / New-Agey / "first-nations-ish";

- coined or favoured by some temporary "celebrity";

- or more appropriate for a pet poodle.

Also any that could be shortened to an insult (children can be very cruel to each other), or whose combination with the surname creates unfortunate associations, in full or abbreviated form.

I would not pick a name that was blatantly incongruous with my Italian last name.

So.... sorry, Heinrich. You're just not going to happen.

How about your ladies marrying Muslims and converting to Islam?
ABCDEF7 · M
@Allelse There is lot of misinformation, and planned propaganda campaign about it.

Any of those dreadful, meaningless, monosyllable names that start with 'B'.🤨
onewithshoes · 26-30, F
@ItsMeMorgue Was thinking more of Bret, Bart, and Brice, but generally don't much like the sound of 'B' names.
I'd also avoid anything on the top ten list for that year.
Who the hell wants grow up being the 11th Jason in their class, or whatever might be now?
ItsMeMorgue · 46-50, F
@onewithshoes Beats being named Yooneek...
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@onewithshoes I for one love being a Jason. Best thing my bio mom ever did for me. Her parents gave her one of those unique names, thinking they were being nice, but she was never able to find anything with her name on it and gift shops.

I don't have that problem, and believe it or not, there was only one other Jason at my school.

barak, joseph, gavin
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@boudinMan Joseph and Gavin?

I don't know the origin of Gavin, but Joseph is an old Hebrew name along with many others in common use in English-speaking countries for centuries, so what is the problem with them?

Or simply personal taste?
@ArishMell Newsom by my guess according to his profile photo
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@NativePortlander1970 Oh, I see! Yes, Hireath has suggested Boris, perhaps referring to another politician, the UK's' ex-PM, Mr. Johnson.

I first encountered the name as Gavin Maxwell, the Scots naturalist and author.
wackidywack · 26-30
Adolf, donald, genghis, nero ?? Graham ??? Lmao what a horrid name
BohoBabe · M
Adolf bin Stalin Pol Pot.
