Critical thinking and how to budget and live within their means. Both things will benefit everyone throughout their lives.

Definitely not star testing. All they teach now is how to pass star testing. And they still can’t pass. This no child left behind crap is leaving every child behind. Pass the tests or lose funding. What did they expect to happen??? Lose the star testing and get back to the basics!!! All children are not the same!! Kids that need help don’t get it. They just modify and sweep everything under the rug to cover their own a$$ while the children learn nothing and never progress!! Been that way for too long now. We need some old school teachers back to basics and discipline for all especially the people in charge of special ed or ard or whatever else they want to call it. Make them do their job or be held accountable. Cursive writing by third grade for Pete’s sake! Make sure children progress for Pete’s sake! That’s why I home schooled my girls for four years. They would have never made it and graduated if I hadn’t.

Basic manners and respect as it seems some parents are reluctant or incapable of doing so.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Nimbus some parents set horrible examples. No patience and can’t control their mouths and tempers.

@cherokeepatti Exactly!
Some people don't 'raise' their children but drag them up and then wonder when they are in their teenage years they have problems with them.

Reading, writing, and arithmetic should absolutely be taught...and apparently that isn't happening in the United States. MANY of our children can't read or do basic math.

THOSE are the keynotes, and they are SO BASIC that if this is not being taught adequately and effectively, we might as well scrap our public schools.

In a PERFECT world, IF the basics are being met, then the HISTORY of our NATION should be taught. The commies who are taking the place of real teachers in our public schools teach their own commie VERSION of our history...and that's all many of our children ever learn.

Thinking.... Not just regurgitating facts

Cooking basics.

Critical thinking. I heard a panel of college educators saying that a lack of critical thinking ability is common among today's high school graduates
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@exexec unfortunately, the reigning politicians want nothing about critical thinking taught. They want students to not learn about anything in history that might seem negative about our nation's history.
Khenpal1 · M
@exexec critical thinking goes beyond nation or personality.
