I walk several miles every day and do weights every other day.
Nimbus · M
@MayorOfCrushtown Excellent 👍
When I was at Planet Fitness, I used their "Circle Room". Filled with machines in a circle that target each muscle group. But then when I got home, I would walk my dog up and down the hills of Plymouth, and all round town.
I guess that was a combination of circuit training and weight training.

@4meAndyou Good stuff! Keep you and your dog healthy!

When I was younger, I exercised relentlessly spending a couple hours at a time in the gym a few times a week. The older I got, the more toll that took on my system - screwed with my hormones, increasing the stress hormone cortisol, among others which negated what I was trying to accomplish. etc. Now, my routine is much less punishing. Tai chi, yoga, gentle strenth training with free weights, combined with low impact cardio. It's been a good switch for me.
Nimbus · M
@LadyBronte Your body was telling you to slow down and you took heed of it and now you do what you can and still maintain a fitness level that is adequate for your needs 👍
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Nimbus Yep. Exactly right!

Earlier this month I hit a milestone - working out for 1500 straight days for at least a half hour.
My favorite? Every morning I workout on the elliptical. Average time 35-45 minutes. Average heartbeat 140-158.
Between June and October, after the elliptical I’ll do a cool down swim of 20-25 laps.
I also do martial arts 1-2x a week. I’ve done a bunch if different arts over the years, but my current passion is Kali. It’s a Philippino art that’s essentially stick and knife fighting.

I do a bit of everything.
5 x a week of "Insanity : The Asylum", which is a combination of strength training, HIIT and Sports drills.
2 x a week of sprint interval training.
3 x week of Jeet Kune Do - Boxing, Wing Chung, Taekwondo and Jujutsu styles of fighting technique training.
Keeps me nimble. Keeps me fast. Keeps me strong.

@AmberDuponte Very comprehensive 👍

Current favorite is bouldering, only been back at it in the last week or so.
The normal routine is a whole bunch of leg lifts to make my back pop, squats and variations of squats including pull down squats. Shoulder exercises, ankle exercises, weights and machine weights. A lot is to rebuild strength and range of motion in injuries I never dealt with properly.

@Justafantasy Oh, I haven't hear of that one before.
Justafantasy · M
@Nimbus bouldering is indoor climbing without ropes for me. I'm not willing to do the real thing, I like having a nice cushy floor to jump onto. A 100% body weight exercise that'll get you into poses yoga could only dream of and leave you sorer than maxing out your weights on every lift all day.
Not something people bulk up for, lean wiry flexible muscle is better. I don't have either, it's still fun

Weightlifting= Dumbbells alternating days , Cardio= treadmill always.
Flexibility and mobility workouts= Alternating days of jumping jacks on cardio day.
Every single gym day= Mountain climbers.
Why mountain climbers? At one point my belly started very subtly protruding over my jeans. With mountain climbers not only did I lose my weight I not only have a slim stomach but a toned one too.

@Nimbus I'm modest... just like I'm very scared of offending people on here 🥺
NewBeginnings7790 · 41-45, F
@BritishFailedAesthetic How many mountain climbers each day were you doing?
@NewBeginnings7790 Really good question. I'm not a detail orientated guy but a few rounds- whether weights or cardio, I always do them.
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
Shopping at 3 more stores on the same day, my type of walking these days. I used to like to go on walks around the neighborhood one or more times a day.
Nimbus · M
@cherokeepatti Exercise is exercise, good for you :)
Adrift · 61-69, F
Up until a couple of years ago it was weightlifting and power lifting.
Kettlebells for conditioning.
Now I need a new shoulder so the weights are off the table for now.

When I was skating we were always complaining about pulling the socks off of our bleeding ankles.

@JimboSaturn Hopefully you can do things around home . Be good to find workout place . During warm weather i garden and mow . I try push mowing as much as possible . Mine was at Y . usually had 3 or more working together . Y moved further away and took in 5 or 6 schools . too crowded .
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@anoderod55 I garden and I'm very physical in the summer. My work has a gym but not a lot of wieghts. Maybe it's better at my age to use lighter weights and do more reps anyway.
