I like my middle name but I don’t like my first name.
Not disrespectful to tell parents you don’t like your name. It’s just an opinion and we should be able to to have different opinions than our parents

Yes I do like my Christian first an middle name. I find it suits my character and personality.
There is one person in my family that I was named after and given that middle name.
All in all, I am fully satisfied and I could have been hit much harder with a name like "North, South, East or West" as it seems to be fashionable nowadays.

My first name is the name of my paternal grandfather and my middle name is the name of my maternal grandfather. I have always liked both names, and now that my parents and grandparents are all gone, I like them even more. (Both names are very traditional). In fact, as I get older, I find myself using the shortened version of my first name less and opting for the full name. (For some reasons, Americans have a compulsion for shortening names.)

@DrWatson Same here a little, I sign my name the formal James. My brother has switched from Bob to Robert.

Neither my first nor my middle names are ones that I would have chosen for myself - but I've had 71 years to get used to them. My mother didn't have a middle name - but my father had to contend with the middle one of "Moses", after some ancestor. He HATED that! 🤗

Yes I was named after my father and my middle name is my mother's maiden name (it is also a traditional first name), I'm old fashioned I prefer solid old names to "made up" names.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@JimboSaturn you should see the names on my student roster. Lol
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@AthrillatheHunt I can imagine!

I have the same first name as my father which I always thought wasn't the best idea.
When I was growing up dad was 'Big Ken' and I was 'Little Ken'.

@MrAverage1965 I got that too. Big Jim and Little Jim, I always hated that.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I don't hate the first name I was given, it goes nicely with my maiden last name. Though I didn't care for it as a child. I'd say I grew into it.
I think it's somewhat disrespectful to tell your parents that, yes.
Family names aren't involved in my first but my original middle is a combination of my mom's first and father's middle. I did use a few ancestor's names for my own child.

I like my given names alright. My first name is difficult for people to say so I go by a shortened name. I don't think it's necessarily disrespectful to parents to not like one's name but it could hurt their feelings if they put a lot of thought and meaning into it.
MerryD · 18-21, F
I love my names. My middle name is the female version of one of my grandad's names.
akindheart · 61-69, F

WolfGirlwh0r3 · 36-40, T
nope, i have already picked a new one, just not being accepted fully
exexec · 61-69, C
I like mine. I was named after my father's best friend who was a fighter pilot in World War II. I don't think it is disrespectful to drop a name you don't like. My grandfather's first name was "Oscar," and he totally dropped it, not even using the initial.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I was given a traditional name and changed it legally to sound more English. I like my given name and still use it in ceremony but it wasn't worth the questions and explanations outside of that.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Not especially. My first given name was very popular at the time, I never understood why. My middle name is my father's first given name which is both a traditional name and a fairly common traditional practice in the UK
