When the kid can pay for it all by themselves

@come2gether My first car only cost me $375, a white two door 1979 Ford LTD with a burgandy Landau top, and a 400ci V8 that threw me back into my seat barely touching the pedal, bought it in 1990.
come2gether · 46-50, M
@NativePortlander1970 my first car was a 1980 Toyota Corolla fastback with a 4 speed manual. If I still had that car today, it would be worth a lot of money.

The age where they can pay for it themselves.

After he's learned to use it responsibly, and has a job, so he can pay for it himself.

Give the brat a pager and be done with it. They can have a cheap smartphone in their mid teens and once they earn their own money they can get a branded phone.
Nimbus · M
@Longpatrol Good point!
come2gether · 46-50, M
@Longpatrol I didn't even know pagers were still a thing until I read about some proxy militia in the middle east having a bunch of defective ones

Should have and would have are 2 different stories.
If a parent can afford it, that child is having it, as soon as they begin walking to school. Maybe even before.

@SW-User True, even if they cannot fully understand it!

@Nimbus It's all about 'everyone else' having it and not being 'left behind'.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
No need for the latest and greatest.
If you think your child needs a device there are plenty of cheaper alternatives.
Parents should perhaps think more about what controls they have over what their child could be exposed to on it.

Most teens have a phone by 8th grade if not before. It’s really a function of affordability and the maturity of your child.
When the child shows that they're responsible enough to have an iPhone 15.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
Nobody should have an iphone. Theyre over priced and have to much hype. Andriod is a better system.
If a boy, a basic cellphone once he hits puberty, so he can google girls. A girl, when she is 21, she is just gonna text constantly other girls, or worst, guys. Make her read books on science instead and wear drabby clothes.
