Rickety bridges that my father always drove over
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@chuck7882 oh yeah those bridges in rural areas with only enough room for one lane and there were boards that you had to keep your tires on, they made a lot of noise and you’d better slow down on them when you drove across. The one closest to where I lived as a teen was broken when two cars tried to cross at once and had an accident, one side was kind of hanging.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@chuck7882 @cherokeepatti I can imagine, especially if the bridge is a decent height from whatever is below it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SubstantialKick oh yes it was.There was some in Missouri that way on our way to the nearest town. You could hear every board as you drove over it.

@SW-User I was too. I didn't overcome it until a few years ago actually.

Mostly, things related to what I heard in church. That being saved or burning in hell forever thing, sounded pretty iffy to me. Like if the people I loved didn't get it just right, that might happen to them. I was scared of what would happen to the animals I loved, if Jesus came back and all the saved people ascended up to heaven.

I was also afraid of war, and being alone in my bed in the dark.
GBPackersFan · 41-45, M
Really old people especially ladies. They creeped me out especially this old lady who lived a few doors down from me. She was huge, scary looking and had big frizzy hair.
I was actually afraid of big dogs when I was small.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard This dog is the most easygoing and timid soul (she’ll often lie down if someone approaches her).
@DragonFruit Ah, "She". Sorry. 😊
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard No problem....Gigi doesn’t mind! 😁
SarahAndSamantha · 46-50, F
Dark and thunder. Now I love them both.

I was also afraid of my aunt's couch for awhile. I touched it once and something cut my finger. Mom said "there must've been something in it" and now-me knows she meant there must've been a needle or something, but little-me thought she meant there was something living inside the couch and it bit me. So, I wouldn't go near it for months.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
For some reason, I was afraid that something might happen to my father and that he might not come home.
As it turned out, he lived until I was almost 40 years old....and he always came home (though sometimes late, after I was in bed).
The fire sirens from the fire department. It would be the still of the night. Windows open for the night breeze, when a block away the sire would go off: [big]BWAAAAAAAAAA!!![/big] And then cycle 8 times. It must have been like 300 decibels loud, left me paralyzed in bed every time. In a day and age of pagers, cell phones and radios I would always ask, “What. The. Fuck!?” I doubt if that shit was really necessary. And yet, there it was.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@stratosranger They sound like an air raid siren, right? Surely a town would have some kind of ordinance against the siren being used at night?
Yeah it was like the damn world was ending! And no. No ordinance. They kicked that thing on or every emergency and at 12 noon and 6 in the evening. @SubstantialKick
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Bees, they had a tendency to sting me. Especially when I panicked and flapped my arms around and yelled “A Bee! A Bee!”
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
I guess ladders. I still will not go up one
@smileylovesgaming Do you also have a fear of heights? Or is it just ladders?
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
@stratosranger Just ladders
@smileylovesgaming Interesting
Everything, mostly men

@SimplyMeChantou That is horrible to do to anyone much less a child. No wonder you were scared. I was timid as a child and a loud voice would scare me. Even in cartoons like Fred Flintstone yelling “Yabba Dabba Doo!” Flashing lights also scared me a lot because of those flashbulbs on cameras that photographers used, I would cry and my sisters didn’t I had a seizure disorder so that was probably why.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@SimplyMeChantou Sorry you went through that 😕.

Nuclear Weapons
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@JohnRing I don't blame you. And just think, if the atomic bomb was capable of doing the damage it did back in 1945, imagine what a nuclear weapon could be capable of in 2022.

My abusive narcissistic mother.
morrgin · F
Just about everything. Even the sound of the toilet flushing had me running for my bed. Of course I'd take a giant leap so a monster wouldn't grab my legs.
KamiKazi · M
I had that same problem in elementary school. I was so afraid of them thay I literally held my hands over my ears when we went on a field trip to a fire station.
RebelFox · 36-40, F
Fire whistles really bother me. Especially if they're going off near me. I think I died in another life listening to its sound.
bugeye · 26-30, F
Woods/forests i found them creepy as a lil kid. also one time when i was like 5 i mistook a fox for a wolf n thought it was gonna eat me.
MiserableAtBest · 18-21, F
I was terrified of toasters, no fucking clue why though, genuinely the most embarrassing thing about me.
itsok · 31-35, F
Vacuums, adults, school, my mom, big slides and merry go rounds, doing things wrong.

Driving on gravel roads
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@iamonfire696 Understandable. I can't imagine what it must have been like traveling on those rough gravel roads in a stagecoach with no seatbelt, lol.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@SubstantialKick how old do you think I am? It’s all gravel roads out here in the country.

Heights. I'm still not crazy about them now tbh 😂
MethDozer · M
@SW-User Same. I can get pretty high but I'm nerveous as fuck and don't like it. Annoys me when people who aren't act like it's silly to be. Like dude, you're scared of a garter snake but I'm being a sally for being a little sketched when I'm on a 40ft ladder?
SW-User
@MethDozer yeah that's the thing. It's much more rational than a lot of fears.

Not wanting a broken neck seems pretty smart to me
MethDozer · M
@SW-User Yeppers. I tjink you're pretty much an idiot if you're not nerveous

@MethDozer Same. My parents didn't mess around when it came to our grades, especially my dad.
