Did you go to college?

If so, do you think it was worth it?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Yes I went to college and went on for an advanced degree. I have had a fulfilling career as a professor as a result. Aside from that, I found college to be very exciting intellectually and growthful personally.

OK, spell checker does not recognize "growthful." I went to college, but I was not an English major! 😂
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
Yes, and it was absolutely worth it to me. It was one of the best times in my life. I made great friends I'm still friends with, and I actually used my degree. :)
Yes. It was worth it.
I finished my university degree and post grad on academic scholarship. It was important for me that I put all the effort to make it possible.
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
English is not my mother tongue, I majored in English so it was worth it.
If you don't have college/university education where I come from, it is difficult to get a job and getting married.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
It absolutely was for me. It’s where I discovered (created?) my adult self—bother intellectually and socially.
Mooed78 · F
Yes.. I seem to be studying for years lol
MsMiley · 31-35, F
@Mooed78 I think it is good to be a life long learner.
Mooed78 · F
@MsMiley I agree I don’t want to stop I am still at university lol
Poeticdiva · 31-35, F
I'm in sxhool now. I don't know yet but we'll see.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I attempted twice.

My own mental and physical illnesses and my mother dying derailed attempt 1, work wouldn't pay for and my husband didn't support me taking out loads for attempted 2.

Socially, yes those experiences were priceless. Academically speaking, improving my technical skills, and how the college experience did and didn't affect my career trajectory- having a degree would have meant I could have advanced further in my company and I'd have been making more money years before it took me to earn the hard way... but having not taking our loans has saved my family thousands in loan debt. I'm not sure how much further I'd be in my career than I am now had I earned a degree so for me in the end it wasnt worth the loan debt and I'm grateful to not have that hang over me.
ArtieKat · M
Yes, I was drunk for 3 solid years.🤣
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Helped a friend of the family move their stuff into the dorm room. Seems to me college people complain about EVERYTHING. One of them chewed me out for propping a door open at the bottom of the stairs. After getting most of the stuff in the room the parents were arguing about who gets which side of the room etc. Somebody put something in the wrong dumpster and they made a big to-do out of that. Somebody called the police...I never found out who got the side of the room with the window.
MellyMel22 · F
Yep and yep. I hate that I owe student loans, but I wouldn’t give my degree up for it
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
Yes and yes it was, wish I did it 20 years before I did though.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
I dropped out 3 months before my a-levels lol I wish I hadn’t gone to a college so far away from where I lived as that had a massive part in it. It was easy to get off the train and go to town for the day 😂
MsMiley · 31-35, F
@GLITTER I can see that being distracting.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
@MsMiley me and my best mate at the time werent very good influencers on each other either 😂 it was a disaster
KioCo · M
Depends on which college and what you would do alternatively.

Statistically, enrolling at law school is likely to be less profitable than becoming a septic tank cleaner. Not so if you decide to work at Starbucks.

The point is to obtain a skill.
Bibipat · F
Yes and yeah it was.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
Yes, indeed
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
Yes but only for a year. I went to find myself lol. Should have stuck it out but ah well. That is in the past.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@ravenwind43 Maybe we fancied the same lecturer! She was hot...
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@Wol62 Nope
Wol62 · 51-55, M
@ravenwind43 Ya don't say?
Yes and yes and statistically it is worth it if you want a higher income ,better career opportunities and just if you're interested in developing yourself in general
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
Yes. I got an Associates degree that said I knew how to do something I had been doing for 30 years. 🤷‍♀️ It passed the time until I found another job.
Yes, and graduated. That was very important in my family. I’m a third generation college graduate in a family that came to this country as slaves and indentured servants.
It was definitely worth it. My niece graduates from Stanford this weekend.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard Congratulations to you and your niece!
@Harmonium1923 Thank you. 🙏🏽

I had three great years at university so it was worth it for that. I wouldn't have been able to get any of my jobs without the degree I got.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
My problem was I was in love with my lecturer and she kept asking me why my work suffered.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Yes and yes. If I was going today however, I might feel otherwise.

Yes, graduated too. In the 90s, when I went, it was worth it. I'm not so sure about now.
Wol62 · 51-55, M
Only for a year and then I dropped out, yeah it was kinda worth it.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
I did. Never managed to finish it though. 🤔
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Yes. I absolutely loved it. The best time of my life.
Yes, and it was absolutely worth it!
JustEd · 41-45, M
About six years. Never finished. 🤷‍♂️
KA9ha · 31-35, M

Yes.

And YES!

I went to college and Uni. Both were worth it in re to getting work placements which then led to a decent career, I wouldn’t say it’s something that made me street wise though.

That happened from experiencing life outside of those educational institutions and what I learned in that regard couldn’t be taught lol 🍸
DDonde · 31-35, M
Yes
I don't know. I paid off my debt pretty quickly but I feel like the degree no longer has much value for me.
deadgerbil · 26-30
@DDonde what was the degree?
DDonde · 31-35, M
@deadgerbil Computer Science. It's not that I didn't learn things, but in terms of the job hunt, it's a bare minimum for programming jobs and largely irrelevant to most other jobs.
Jexie · 26-30, F
Yes and yes
tenente · 100+, M
yes / yes. but, i studied engineering to do what i do today so it was necessary
empanadas · 31-35, M
Yes and no. I make more than almost of all of my former classmates in highschool and college.
