I attempted twice.
My own mental and physical illnesses and my mother dying derailed attempt 1, work wouldn't pay for and my husband didn't support me taking out loads for attempted 2.
Socially, yes those experiences were priceless. Academically speaking, improving my technical skills, and how the college experience did and didn't affect my career trajectory- having a degree would have meant I could have advanced further in my company and I'd have been making more money years before it took me to earn the hard way... but having not taking our loans has saved my family thousands in loan debt. I'm not sure how much further I'd be in my career than I am now had I earned a degree so for me in the end it wasnt worth the loan debt and I'm grateful to not have that hang over me.
