My sister is 11 or so. She's had diabetes though for 25 years with pretty high sugars. Her body is too sensitive to insulin so she can never take what she really needs. She has neuropathy in her feet and suffers with severe numbness, I feel so heartbroken 😟

My both parents are Type 2 diabetics. Their HbA1c usually ranges between 5.6 - 6.5 and 6.1 - 7.7

(raises hand) last time I tested in Jan, 6.0. But when I was first diagnosed, it was 12.7. Are you seeing a doctor ?

@bijouxbroussard Wow that is not in diabetes range ..that's great!

@bijouxbroussard No not as of now. I am taking strict dietary measures and monitoring my sugar levels. I will go again for Hba1c next month. How come you got it under control from such high levels?
bijouxbroussard · F
@bill117 I worked with my doctor. She put me on medication and sent me to classes to learn how to monitor my blood sugar, regulate diet and exercise, and as a result I did lose weight, and right now it’s balanced. I’m t2 but diabetes is hereditary in my family so I take nothing for granted.

12.6 is way too high.
I was at 10.9 5 years ago when I started insulin and the doctors acted like I should be in ICU

@Pfuzylogic Have you gotten it under control now?

@bill117 Had it at 6.7 recently and then the VA screwed up my supply for 5 days. It was 7.3 last test.

My Grandfather was a diabetic, never knew which type, though.
@bill117 After being diagnosed as pre diabetic I spent a couple of hours with the diabetes nurse. She takes special training yearly and only works with diabetes patients. She said all cereal, including oatmeal, with milk was terrible for me and to stop it immediately. I haven't had milk and cereal in almost a year now. Breads and sweets had to be limited. I needed to start eating more proteins. So I have more meats and vegetables now. She also told me the if I am going to have a heavily loaded carbohydrate meal like spaghetti to have a salad first. They have clinical research showing that if you have a salad first it will reduce the sugar intake by half. So that's what I have done. I was also told to exercise more. She really liked walking. I wear a Garmin fitness tracker. So I doubled my steps per day also. So far in 9 months I have dropped my A1C number from 7.9 to 5.8. 5.6 is normal. I have also lost 39 pounds.

@NativePortlander1970 What are your fasting sugar levels? If I may ask
@bill117 I don't check, ever, I hate those lancets with a passion.
