To be fair, the Christian apocalyptic vision isn’t a conspiracy theory per se.
A conspiracy theory explains current events through dark and sinister plots involving secret groups and so on. I’m tired all the time because the Illuminati are spraying halcyon on me through chemtrails.
A feature of Christianity is eschatology. The theology of the end of the world. Most see that as something that is always immanent. It’s a minority who are convinced it’s coming next week.
There are a couple here preaching that. They seem to when they are upset. It comes and goes.

Yeah i guess i phrased that badly. I don't think of latter day beliefs as a conspiracy theory so much as a wacky fringe belief. But it's people who hold a lot of conspiracy theories that i've noticed taking up this belief more in recent years.

They have been saying that for over 2,000 years.
You know how many times I have seen this same thing?
Are you just now noticing? I mean, is this the first time you have ever seen it?

Ah I’ve noticed an uptick of conspiracy theories but the more prevalence of one over others or others over one idk I can’t keep track of that. There’s so many goddamn crazies.
However the government just confirmed UFOs are a thing when they denied for years UFO footage existed and they had their hands on it so uh...might’ve had something to do w the distrust.

Oh if you don't think the government keeps stuff from its citizens then you're crazy lol.
But there's a difference between declassifying something that may once have been a security issue and say running a child sex-trafficking ring lol

@Pikachu agreed

This has been going on for something like 2,000 years. Christianity itself basically began as a Jewish apocalypse cult, and hasn't really changed that much.
@DunningKruger Oh i know the end times stuff is not new. After all, we've had the church of latter-day saints for quite a while now.
But i feel like conspiracy nuts are jumping on board now

@Pikachu Or they're just crawling out of the woodwork.
@DunningKruger
Could be. But i personally think it's just a progression of conspiracy minded ideation that works well with the already existing conspiracies about governments being secretly evil and hiding truth and all that.

sorry that liberals are too thick to realize that government corruption has nothing to do with your political affiliation. 🤷♀️

...ok lol. I just didn't think your post had anything to do with the thread.
Take care!

Believers know the "end of the world" (tm) is b.s. I make cash offers for all their possessions and property and none have taken me up.
@Crazywaterspring lol well try again in a few years i guess
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Pikachu I've kept a standing offer since the world was supposed to collapse with the Y2K bug.
@Crazywaterspring
I think that's a bit of a different situation. Y2K was a potentially disastrously situation that was avoided by a lot of people working very hard to avoid it.

Yep. I was watching a couple of pastors Ben Marsh and James Kendall who are speaking out against the infiltration of QAnon into Christianity. They say that because religion relies on believing in stuff you cant see and you have to take things on faith that it is easy to slip between beliefs. For instance Jesus was supposed to save the world from Satan and usher in a utopia. Trump was supposed to save the world from Satan and usher in a utopia. When the beliefs run parallel they can end up crossing.
I saw this article yesterday as well:

Morons believe anything they see on the internet.
@Quetzalcoatlus
I jut think it's interesting that the Christian end times has become another crazy belief that conspiracy nuts are glomming on to

I certainly see YouTube videos of people laughing at the crazies, I am wondering how significant their numbers are.

I can't say I've noticed it but the end has been nigh for as long as I can remember.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I haven’t seen that, but I’d be up for a good apocalypse 🤷♂️
