I don’t know but after the poor reception I received from the Border Staff last time I visited I have no intention of ever returning to the country to find out.

@looking4thesun thank you for revealing your bias.
looking4thesun · M
@LamontCranston it may be biased but we both know the truth is there
LamontCranston · M
@looking4thesun Surely.

@salwa Yes, I believe the USA is a very safe country to visit. If you watch the news, you'll see the very worst of what we have to offer but, miss the best. This country is rich in diversity of our people, landscape, traditions, values and ideas. If you come visit, there are areas you can venture into that will be fun and interesting in the daytime but, after dark you would definitely want to avoid. There is a saying that, "Nothing good happens after midnight" and its a wise warning to heed anywhere in the world.
If you come here, you are free to dress as you please, voice your opinions on ANY topic and move around the country anywhere you'd like without fear of being arrested (just don't break the laws), beat, or tortured because of who you are or what you believe.
I would be interested in what your life experiences have been, where you've lived or visited, it would give a nice view of the comparisons you could make.
I'm sure there are plenty of folks who will refute my opinion here and tell you how awful it is here but, honestly... I've traveled the world and been to so many places thanks to my service in the US Navy. I've seen REAL oppression, squalor and poverty, you won't see that here. Come visit us, if you get to Minnesota, let me know, I'll get you a cup of coffe (or tea) or whatever you like and be a great host and ambassador for you!
:)

It's not a simple answer. Every places has good spots and bad spots. In addition to how you travel. But with the current state of affairs as it is, I wouldn't recommend a visit as highly right now as I would have.
4meAndyou · F
I would be very careful if visiting a major city. I don't think any major city is safe.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@4meAndyou
Yep, anywhere on earth.
It's been that way for a long time. Just watch the looting and the torching of autos and buildings that so many big cities experience, seemingly every few months.
50+ years ago I spent a few months in Saigon, in the middle of a war. A few months later in NYC, and I felt safer in Saigon than I did in NYC.

@4meAndyou Used to be safe here all over my city of 130,000 or so. There was nowhere I would have been afraid of to walk around alone. Not anymore .Another woman got her face slashed while waiting at a bus stop here a few weeks ago.
Tracos · 51-55, M
I'm not so sure any more
Especially now that you have to declare all social media for entry into the country and make everything public so that everything can be checked for controversial posts and likes.
Not sure I want to share all SW stuff with border patrol

I think it depends on where you go. And I guess it depends on where you're from, since your passport will probably be scrutinized. I hate to say it, but the government is making all of us look really bad
I would stay clear of the place another 4 years, then we see what happens. Not safe at the moment no.
iamthe99 · M
I don't know but I'm not going back there, even though i used to live there (I'm part American)

I wouldn’t do it.

Yep...just stay away from democrat run cities...LA, SF, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, St Louis, etc...
@BizSuitStacy You forgot the city that never sleeps. 🤣
BizSuitStacy · M
@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays How could I forget to mention NYC? Or DC, Newark, Miami, New Orleans...
@BizSuitStacy NYC's current mayor should be behind bars even as we speak.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
I was born here - that's why I'm here
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
For the most part, yes.
jackrabbit10 · M
if you stay out if the big city's, stay off the interstate HI ways
BrandNewMan · M
Generally, yes. Stay in nicer areas, have all your travel docs in order and obey the laws while you are visiting.
JackHoff · 46-50, M
Yes, it is still safe.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
For most of the people, most of the time, pretty much.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Like any other civilized country it all depends where you visit & why you visit
SatyrService · M
if you "fit in"
sure
but waatch your mouth!
sure
but waatch your mouth!
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
Mostly but it's improving
If safety means getting shot, risk being deported for having a meme on your phone or riots in LA, it’s quite safe
looking4thesun · M
When was it ever safe
Iwillwait · M
Of course. Just come here during the daytime .
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait And have someone guide you to as which areas to avoid
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
I'd love to think so but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I will not be visiting again anytime soon
Depends on what the current travel advisories where you live say???
Just stay out of Bed-Stuy.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
When was it ever safe? Maybe in a small town.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Absolutely!
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Not even remotely.
Kypro · 51-55, M
If you’re white it’s more safe. But there are mass shootings each day so…
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
I certainly wouldn’t visit with the clows 🤡running it!

No, it’s a fascist authoritarian state. We have roving good squads kidnapping people who are never seen again.

No.

LamontCranston · M
@Selah She turned away millions! (Voters, that is.)

No, not safe at all. Very dangerous country to visit right now and probably for the next 5 years at least.
