Russia breached Budapest memorandum in 2014 with its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea. As a response, the US and the UK provided Ukraine with financial and military assistance, and imposed economic sanctions on Russia, while ruling out "any direct interventions to avoid a direct confrontation with Russia".

@JSul3 Putin “invaded” Ukraine in body in 2022. US invaded Ukraine in spirit in 2004 while also funding civil unrest, training the Ukrainian bodies, and giving them weapons.

@KarenisKenziesmum Because Ukraine started the war decades ago by shelling the people living in Eastern Ukraine. In fact the shelling became so bad the people in Eastern Ukraine voted to join Russia. Under international law the region then became Russia and Ukraine was the occupying force that Russia was forced to drive out. Ukraine wouldn't leave peacefully.
