Will Europe and US ever be willing to leave Ukraine alone? They need to take a look in the mirror.

@emiliya Putin invaded a sovereign nation.

That should not be ignored.

@JSul3 Why does US think it can choose who is in government in a sovereign country?

Would you pay for protests in a sovereign country? You probably would. Both Russia and US have meddled, except one of them is the neighbor of Ukraine and has a shared history, culture, and family members who are Ukrainian. The separatists were Ukrainians who were helped by Russia, and the pro-western agitators were Ukrainians who were spurred on, funded, and trained by the west. What is your point? Russia is no more guilty than America. It is in fact less guilty. Russia was seeking to protect domestic affairs and possibly stop itself from being infiltrated, whereas US was interfering in a foreign nation on another continent thousands of miles away. Their objective was nefarious and they were looking for trouble.

@emiliya Putin invaded Ukraine.
What else do you need to know?

Do you side with Putin or with the people of Ukraine? A simple question.

In exchange for security assurances, Ukraine relinquished its Soviet-era nuclear weapons in 1994, formalized through the Budapest Memorandum. This agreement, signed by Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom, aimed to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The agreement also committed the signatories to refrain from threatening or using force against Ukraine's independence or political independence.
Key aspects of the agreement:
Security Assurances:
The Budapest Memorandum provided security assurances to Ukraine, including commitments from Russia, the US, and the UK to respect Ukraine's existing borders and refrain from using force against its sovereignty.
Denuclearization:
Ukraine, inheriting the world's third-largest nuclear arsenal after the Soviet Union's collapse, agreed to transfer its nuclear weapons to Russia for dismantlement.
Non-Proliferation Treaty:
Ukraine also acceded to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as a non-nuclear weapons state.
Economic Benefits:
Ukraine also received economic benefits, including fuel for nuclear power plants, as part of the agreement, according to The Kyiv Independent.
Dismantlement:
The last strategic nuclear delivery vehicle in Ukraine was dismantled in 2001 under the START treaty.

However, the agreement has been a subject of debate and scrutiny:

Violation by Russia:
Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its ongoing invasion of Ukraine are widely viewed as violations of the Budapest Memorandum's security assurances.

Effectiveness of Assurances:
The failure of the agreement to prevent Russian aggression has led to questions about the effectiveness of such security guarantees.

Alternative Perspectives:
Some experts have argued that Ukraine's nuclear weapons could have provided a stronger deterrent against potential Russian aggression.

@JSul3 US violated the territorial integrity and political independence of the signatories when they went to meddle in Ukraine in 2004 and again in 2014.

I do not side with anyone, and I do not care for your biases and propaganda. I am paying more attention to social matters, domestic affairs in US, psychology, Christianity, philosophy and so on. I am also learning Latin.

@emiliya Putin invaded Ukraine.
You side with Putin.
Got it.
emiliya · 22-25, F
@JSul3 Putin “invaded” Ukraine in body in 2022. US invaded Ukraine in spirit in 2004 while also funding civil unrest, training the Ukrainian bodies, and giving them weapons.

@emiliya I'm sorry, but joining forces against a larger threat. (Russia) is not the same as invading and deliberately attacking civilian targets and nuclear power plants in a clear attempt to terrorize and intimidate civilians into surrendering.
JSul3 · 70-79
@emiliya Who invaded who?

Are you so out of touch with reality that you think Ukraine was going to invade Russia?
